turning off crossplay on pc fully locks you out of playing the game

i was trying to play the game with a friend, but we kept getting into full servers, preventing us from joining each other. we decided to try turning off crossplay to get smaller servers, and after trying to load back in after doing so, we literally just cant play the game. i've sat on this "Configuring..." screen on the main menu for like 30 minutes. I've tried restarting my game, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, and even downloading the game on the EA app instead of steam to see if that would fix anything, but it doesn't.
