New Be Mean bug?

Since today's update (July 23, 2024) I noticed the sims in my game (both my sims and the other sims) are being mean for no reason.

First, my sim's visiting best friend yelled at her, the next day my sim yelled at another best friend (I did not save this part), then later in the day my sim was about to insult the school principal (twice) (I was able to cancel out this action).  I also saw other students insulting each other.

My sim is a nice sim with a great reputation, so being mean is out of character for her.

Has this happened to anyone else?

How do I fix this?

In 2022 there was an "auto insult bug" which someone had made a fix for.   I am hoping someone can fix this!

Thank you.

Also bugging is study magic times. They are greyed out and you can't study them. Kind of annoying as I can't even seem to learn spells by practicing magic or experimenting on the cauldron

As for a fix, try turning autonomy off in game settings.

Doesn't fix the problem because conversations between sims are always going to be autonomous (even with autonomy off) to keep conversation flowing.  Even if you're able to quickly cancel an autonomous mean interaction as they appear in your queue, the sim you're conversing with is inevitably going to be mean to the sim that you're currently controlling, so the conversation is pretty much doomed to take an unpleasant turn.  I'm putting the game aside until they fix this.

I turned atonomy off in my game and have had no mean interactions since. I rebuilt their relationships and they have not gone down. They don’t interact unless I tell them to. They will still go to take care of the newborn. It’s not a great fix because I have to micromanage each sim more than normal. It’s an option to at least make it until they fix the issue.

I started a new game (to ensure my games that I have been running and put a lot of work into, don't get ruined) to try any suggestions. I turned off autonomy and I found it does not solve the problem.  Sooner or later either my sim or any sim she is conversing with insults the other.  The good thing is my sim is able to apologize immediately after either insulting or being insulted and everything is okay.  I can't always stop my sim from insulting others.  It happens so fast.

Until they fix this problem, I am going to hold off on playing the sims that I have been running and only play the experiment sim.

It was a suggestion from a YouTuber during the 2022 mean bug issue. I’m sorry it doesn’t work for you. I always have my sims grinding skills and work tasks so it works for me as a work around.During conversations I just briefly spam positive interactions then have them do something else.

Hopefully they fix it super fast because it’s counterproductive to the new expansion pack.

It’s good apologies work because they did not the last time I experienced the mean bug. I’m not looking forward to seeing if the work around works for infants and toddlers. I have a newborn in the household. One of my sims from another game months back got bitten and had a festering rage over a toddler biting him. Toddlers and infants are too young to apologize I think. Sorry it didn’t help.

  • This just started happening for my sims. I have two cousins who live together, are best friends and have always had a great relationship- suddenly since the last update one of them just keeps insulting her cousin randomly and in conversations with others too. She then gets an "instant regret" sentiment. I'm trying to get her cousin a new boyfriend but she keeps being mean to everyone he brings home!!!!!

I still have it happening even after yesterday's patch was supposed to fix it (on PC), albeit it might not be as bad as it was before. My sisters aren't going at each others' throats as much but their dad just randomly decided to start mocking one of them...

    Sigh.

  • i have this, too. my sim got mean interactions for a respectful introduction! they eventually got so stressed from bad social interaction that they were unplayable. i switched to a different save with different sims, same thing. this is not. fun to play. back to building lots until they fix this

  • The same has been happening to me, I had a sim go to the nightclub and everyone is just being mean to each other. Almost impossible to build relationships without it being undone because they just start being mean to eachother.

  • I just need something done about it and quick. My Sims game is virtually unplayable. I couldn’t start a relationship with anyone because they’re so mean. I had to make a sim for her to date and right before I was going to have him propose to her- he started yelling and threw a drink in her face. Now she is “hurt” and their relationship is in the red.

Made this account specifically to comment about it because maybe. JUST MAYBE, it’ll get seen faster.

  • I play the sims 4 with playstation 5 and this mean/autonomous insulting bug is still not fixed even though update 7/29/2024  was supposed to fix it.  My sims still keep doing autonomous mischief like claiming to be criminal mastermind/lie about career and wanting to yell to another. It doesn´t make any sense and makes me not want to play this game anymore and definitely not buying any more expansions if this how it will continue to be. Please sims developers look into this bug again at least for consoles ,don´t know if sims pc version has it truly fixed now...

  • I had this bug to when Lovestruck released ,My sim spouse became violent , i know he had the mean trait when they dated but i removed it after they got married because it was part of his life progress ,He was most happy with his life before the expansion and after the release the spouse became somebody else . I went to grab coffee and left the game running for two minutes i figured my sim was busy cooking so it was safe, when i came back her spouse had returned from work and was standing next to her and was yelling and few seconds later her spouse started a brawl and my sim got beaten bad all thanks she is not a gym person. I couldn't believe what i just saw. When this happened i had no mods or any other things that could have inflicted , i simply left that awful scenario to help my sim with moving out and divorcing, I have kept myself wondering about this and now when i have downloaded helpful mods and done tons of tests i finally found some things , it seem the auto insult was on and some other options ,So this week i removed some dlc's to check if every pack got this or if it's  just a conflict in between the dlc's.I am still doing those tests and so far some packs works and got zero issues with other packs so i have started to rebuild my world again with an iron hand as in having the mods to control every script , if something goes wrong i will make sure the team will know about it.
