Bad CC - Instructions on how to find it and how to get rid of it (including list)
There is a new thread I help in @AnswerHQ. This is mostly to ensure it's continuance should EA ever decide to close this forum. You can find the new thread here: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-3/HOW-TO-Find-and-remove-bad-custom-content-CC/td-p/2759940/ http://www.crinrict.com/blueRuler.jpg Broken CC Objects with Patch 1.26/Pets Many objects that have slots seem to be broken (actually the slots are). This is an issue that has per se nothing to do with EA, so I would like to keep the discussion about it out of this thread. If you want to know more about this issue or have some extra info, please use this thread: Slots broken on all CC, except store stuff --> Please check TSR for a fix: http://www.thesimsresource.com/fixyourgame/ If you have your Store content installed any other way then by downloading from the EA site and installing through your launcher then you will need to redownload the stuff from your purchase history and install again through the launcher. Otherwise the Store fix is not working. http://www.crinrict.com/blueRuler.jpg What is this thread about? A lot of Households/Sims/Lots contain custom content (CC) that is either bad or that you don’t want. Some of them are very hard to find in the launcher for they look nothing like the picture you see in CAS and unfortunately you can delete them in CAS directly. There are methods, tools and lists around that can help you find and avoid this CC . The intention of this thread is to give you links to those and help you if you have problems understanding them. This thread is not for spoon feeding you every step that is already described again. If you have troubles understanding, be specific in your questions. This thread is also for helping you with CC that is not listed anywhere and that you can't find. Please check the available lists first before posting and if you feel up-to it, try the method described below to find out yourself. My time is limited and I have many other projects, so please do me the courtesy and READ before posting. Thank you. What is bad CC? Bad CC is Custom Content that harms your game. One should distinguish between unwanted and bad CC. Unwanted CC is CC YOU don't like but others very well might want while bad CC is C no one should use for it can harm your game. There are the following kinds of bad CC: - CC that is categorized for too many age groups and both genders - CC that is categorized for wrong ages and/or naked - CC that crashes/freezes your game - CC that causes the blue lot issue - Clothing that colors on other parts (only listed in German, see the FAQ for more info) - CC that hides in other CC - Tight Arms (unsure if still an issue, only in German) - CC hair that looks terrible (not listed, FAQ) - CC windows/doors that crash the game since LN (not listed) - CC that comes with Sims (list to be made) - Simply badly done CC (not listed) There's also CC that likes to attach to everything you upload whether you use it or not but there are so many of those that I can't list all of them When putting CC in your game, always remember that corrupt CC can crash your game, slow it down and maybe cause your launcher not to work properly. How do I get rid of that CC ? Please refer to this blog post for information on that - TUTORIAL: How to get rid of unwanted Custom Content - TUTORIAL: How to find a certain download in your Launcher - CUSTARD: Downloads that are attached to Sims directly - TUTORIAL: How to keep a Sim but get rid of the CC it came with - Game Help:TS3 Finding Problem Custom Content How can I avoid CC I don't want? When you download something from the Exchange, always use the Add To Game button and not Save as. Save as corrupts the thumbnails and you can't install the stuff. Add to Game will no longer install the content automatically so you can check it before installing. Check all Households/Sims/Lots before you install them. There's a tool called Custard/CleanInstaller by Delphy that can help you check your stuff. Instructions can be found here: TUTORIAL: Delphy's Custard For Package-Files there's another tool called Dashboard, also by Delphy that can pinpoint you in the right direction: TUTORIAL: Delphy's Dashboard (not adjusted to the newest version of the tool) Both tools can only help you with some errors. There are many errors that can't be detected. If the tools say it's safe, that isn't necessarily true. Where is the CC installed that I see in my game All CC can be found in Documents\ElectronicArts\TheSims3. There are two different kinds of CC. Packages and Sims3Packs. Sims3Packs are the only ones that show up in your launcher. Packages are installed a different way. Please check this thread for details: How-To-Install CC/Mods "The New Way" Guide. This thread is mostly about Sims3Packs. Sims3Packs are containers for package files. When you double click on such a file a few things happen: - The Sims3Pack gets copied to the Downloads folder and then shows in Downloads in the launcher - The Package-Files inside (they all have long numbers) get unpacked to the DCBackup folder. They do almost nothing (see FAQ below) - The Package-Files inside get compressed together and installed to the files *.dbc (or *.ebc for Store). Files that are installed here, show up in your Launcher. For further info on your user files, check this: Game Help:TS3 User Folders Explained You could, in theory, move the Package-files from DCBackup to the mods folder and use them like package files but a lot of Package-Files are bad for your game performance so if it weren't for the launcher, Sims3Packs are actually better to use then package-Files. If you have any further questions, please consult the FAQ before posting.252KViews1like1401CommentsHow-To-Install CC/Mods "The New Way" Guide. Update: 04/23/2014
10/18/2011: Latest Patch... I have made a post here, so please read. If you're already aware of the issue with the RIG/Slots change on 3PCC, links to the tools to fix have been added to the bottom of this post. http://oi41.tinypic.com/2lcn3oo.jpg Update: Added 04/23/2014 I now have a video that shows How to add Mods to your Sims 3 game. My YouTube video link... How to add Mods to your Sims 3 game http://oi41.tinypic.com/2lcn3oo.jpg BEFORE YOU POST!!! 1. DO NOT break the pages on this thread or in someone else's (posts/listByUser/ .page! If you post an image make sure to re-size it. The average pixel size for images on this type of message board is ("width=640" "height=480"). Also quoting is fine but don't quote so much that it breaks the threads or others post. There are help threads listed in Walden's Directory that show you how to re-size images. Simmers should use it more and it's got a sticky for a reason! NOTE: 04/18/2011 Just because images now resize at the forum level does not mean they do at the post level. If you post over-sized images I will ask you to remove or resize them. Your listByUser page cannot be fixed unless the post itself is fixed. 2. Make sure you have read and understand the TOS and the Forum Rules posted by SimGuruHydra. Specifically, this one... - Do not link to, request, or discuss content that may raise the game rating to an "M". This includes linking to teen pregnancy hacks, nude hacks, etc. http://oi39.tinypic.com/33w9stj.jpg Update: Added 06/28/2011 - ATTENTION MAC USERS! The link to the Resource.cfg file in Zach's guide is no longer valid. You can use the link for Windows (below) just make sure follow the same instructions he has listed as they should still work. December 13, 2010 I added a link to Zach's guide for Mac users at the very bottom of this post so I only have to post the link to my guide when I can't remember the link to his. http://oi39.tinypic.com/33w9stj.jpg Anyway, others (on and off this forum) have asked me to post a separate thread. This only took me one try and I got it to work. Hope this helps so here you go. Happy Simming! http://oi39.tinypic.com/33w9stj.jpg FYI ~ Operating System: This is my OS, Windows Vista™ Home Premium Service Pack 2, but the folder structure is the same for Win7 (located under Library), XP just says MyDocuments instead of Documents which is located under Documents and Settings. NOTE: YOU CAN NOT HAVE TWO FRAMEWORKS, NEITHER WILL BE RECOGNIZED! If you still have your CC/Mods setup under Programs the old framework, you will need to remove that framework and any file or automated installation program associated with it BEFORE setting up the new framework under Documents. If you are running Windows XP, you should check to make sure you have .NET Frameworks installed. This is something that comes with later versions of Windows Vista and Win7. Earlier versions of XP may not have this and you need at least 2.0 and you can check your installed programs via control panel. If you do not have this, you will need to download it from the Microsoft site. I do believe the latest version for XP is now 4.0. http://i47.tinypic.com/5bw5j4.jpg Okay setting up a framework is just allowing your computer to accept the .package files. You must have your files set up like in the picture (below). (i.e. Mods, Packages - make sure to use the same case) Packages is a subfolder of the Mods folder. Location: \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages http://i48.tinypic.com/2d6li1c.jpg Update: Added 06/28/2011 Step 1. *Click here, to download the NEW Resource.cfg file. Step 2. Sroll down the page to Resource.cfg Contents? and click on the link for the file. Step 3. **Choose Save As, and save it to the Mods folder. * Verified the Resource.cfg file is most current as of 06/28/2011. The content is the same only the link to get to the file on MTS has changed. ** This process will vary depending on the browser, it's version and settings you are using. I'm now using MSIE9 but the examples shown are with MSIE8. Now you have your Packages folder and the NEW Resource.cfg file in the Mods folder (like picture above). Update: Added 06/25/2011 NOTE: IF MTS IS DOWN FOR MAINTENANCE! The above link is to the original Resource.cfg file from MTS. However, if the site is down you have two other options. Option 1) You can download a different version of the file here from a Mediafire link provided by Crinrict. If option 1 does not work... Option 2) You can still manually create the Resource.cfg file by doing a copy/paste of the the original file from the code window by following the instructions in my post on page 21. Next you want to download your CC and place it wherever you place your downloads. Placing the file on your desktop is probably easiest. In my example, I made a folder on my desktop. I normally do this in my downloads folder. http://i49.tinypic.com/2wp095w.jpg Now you're ready to Extract the (.package) files from the (.rar or .zip) compress file. If you're on a PC running Windows, Game Update for 1.12/2.7/3.3 on 05/28/2010. I suggest if you haven't setup your framework under Documents by now and you're still installing mods the old way under programs, you run the same risk below. There are many mods/cc that are just simply becoming obsolete and are starting to cause issues as this game progresses. The Gurus/Mods in the Technical Forum have taken note of the particular obsolete mod causing the below for future troubleshooting reference. This obsolete mod that is still available for download on MTS and automatically does setup in using the old framework. It caused the below to happen to the user's load screen. So use at your own risk! LoadScreen_by member Hawgatha (with permission) http://i56.tinypic.com/20sabl4.jpg ________________ Update: As of 11/12/2010, I now currently have my CC installed the new way. It was so I can use NRaas Mods to get a better handle on some of the issues with LN (i.e. Cars). It took but about two minutes to change it from the old way to the new way. More Stuff 12/13/2010, Added link to guide for Mac users. This is on LivingSims, but a couple people I talked to said they found it hard to understand. So this is a step by step guide to merge your files and decrease some of the lag the CC causes which should make the game run faster. ***WARNING - Do NOT merge skintones, default replacements or mods. Poses are iffy, so if you do, do it as a test first. These files can conflict with your game if merged. WARNING*** How to Merge CC files For this guide I will be using this hair as an example: Firstly, you will need: 1. The Framework Installer will no longer be updated and is no longer needed, but if you want to install it, for those who don't have all the EPs and SPs or updated with the most current patch, you can find it here: Delphy's Framework Installer and follow the instructions, I won't be going into detail with this step, as I no longer use it myself, since I am fully updated. You can skip this step and head straight to step 2 if you have any EPs from Ambitions onward. 2. Next, and this is optional: Download Delphy's Multi-Installer. This is used for converting sims3pack files into .package files. You can use it on the CC in your launcher, altho, the EA content should stay as is, as it is designed for the launcher. Please note that you must be registered with MTS to download the framework and multi-installer. You can put these, and the rest of your CC into a new folder. Mark it TS3 CC, or something else that you will know what it is. I have mine on my desktop. Leave the CC as is for right now. We will come back to it. 3. Next, Download the S3PE file from here. The S3PE does get updated, so be sure to check often, although it will have a pop up come up when a new release comes out anyway. Place the file where you will know where it is for easy access. 4. Once you have everything it is time to set up your TS3 CC folder and organize all of that CC. It is easier when you newly start out. But once it is set up, it is very easy. I will show you as an example on what to do, with that hair from Peggy I downloaded. You will notice the change in icons with the s3pe program: That is what you want. Cut and paste into your TS3 CC folder. As you will notice, I only have 2 folders within my TS3 CC folder. I don't have a lot of CC, so it is easier to organize. I could get away with just one. But if you prefer, you can separate everything by category: Hair, Accessory, Skin, etc. But for mine I will place it in with my mixed folder. 5. Now we can go into the s3pe program. After opening it up click on file and then New as seen below: Next, right-click and choose: import>From Package as seen below: Once you do that, this should pop up: Click on one of your folders. I will choose my mixed. Select all of the CC in the folder that you choose. By clicking on one, going to the end, and hitting Shift+click. Then click Open. This should come up: You will want to make sure Replace Duplicates is selected and check the box next to Compress. And then Import. It may take a few seconds depending on how much CC you have. 6. You will see a bunch of numbers and letters. That is normal. So now, all you need to do is save it in a place you can grab quickly, or in your TS3 CC folder. Just make sure to choose a different name than one of your folders. Like if you have a folder marked Hair, mark the file from S3PE as Hairs. It will take a few moments. Depending on how much CC you have. When you see it come up with a file name. It is ready. You can either close it and do the next category, or cut and paste the file into your Package file under your Mods folder. The CC will be merged coming out of the S3PE, and all of it should work. If you want to make sure, you can download Delphy's Dashboard and check for corrupt CC prior to doing this. From what I have read, there is a small issue with LN. However, according to Delphy it's minor and the Dashboard will still do what it is meant to do. The important thing is having the global framework, set up by the framework installer. And once you have all your CC merged and back in your Packages folder, be sure to keep your TS3 CC folder. That way updating it is quicker as you add or delete CC from there. Just simply run it through the S3PE again, save it, and cut and paste back in to your Packages folder to replace the old file. If you use a lot of sims3pack files, be sure to get Custard to check for any corrupt CC. The Dashboard is only for .package files. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. LE55KViews0likes153CommentsBroken CC? Let me fix it for you!
You ever download a new piece of custom content that looks perfect in the pictures online...only to get in-game and see this: https://i.imgur.com/05WiJKz.png?1 Well, I can fix that! So I figured I'd offer my services to any of you here - Link me to the CC you want that looks wonky in game and I'll repair it and send you the fixed version. CC I can fix Clothing Shoes Accessories I haven't learned how to work with hair, so don't send it to me. Problems I can fix CC items enabled for age groups they shouldn't be enabled for. Like this: http://i54.tinypic.com/1zodete.jpg CC items that explode in-game. Like this: https://i.imgur.com/05WiJKz.png?1 CC items that aren't properly morphed. (CC that doesn't increase in size to accommodate sims larger or smaller than default size). And just some final notes: Firstly, I won't go through adfly or similar links to get CC. If what you want fixed goes through adfly, please link me the simsfileshare/mediafire/dropbox/etc link and not the adfly link. And, secondly and finally, I will do whatever it takes to fix this stuff for you guys. I know how frustrating it is to find CC like this that is obviously broken, but released anyway. With some CC, that might mean that it'll take me a bit longer to properly fix it. So I ask that you be patient. With that said, send me all you got! I'd be happy to help! :smile:20KViews2likes872CommentsCustom Sim passed to me through Simport!
So I am dealing with another technical malfunction with Showtime (can't interact with one of my sims anymore) and I decide to try to start a new game to see if this is happening with new games as well and I go to create a household and there is a new custom sim in my bin.... The one I just hosted through a Simport! Ok, so earlier today I hear a report from a friend that they have a youtube video of them hosting a show and receiving custom content in the form of custom lip gloss and 2 other make up items from third parties passed through on the sim that they had hosted. NOW I find that not only is THAT possible but I have had an entire SIM passed to me and I sat in on a live chat with 3 Simgurus telling us that custom content could NOT be passed through simport. Are viruses next?15KViews1like220CommentsCreate Your Own Custom T-Shirt In Minutes- Easy To Follow Step By Step Tutorial.
Do You want your sims to have shirts like these with perfectly centered pictures and to show up amazingly clear within your game using any image you want???With this step by step tutorial I will show you how to make your favorite brand names or sports teams or even your Schools Logo right on your sims shirt.Anything you want is now possible.I will post pictures of all the steps so even the non computer savy simmers will be able to do this."Note" please keep your images clean from foul language etc if posting your creations and have fun with it. For this tutorial i will be using this image because hey who doesn't love spongebob right? Step 1:First you will need the Sims 3 create a pattern tool which is found right on the Sims3.com site under the Free stuff tab at the top of the page. For those that use this tool for regular fabric patterns etc please read to learn new exciting things. Step 2:Find your image,it can be anything you want but make sure you save it to a place on your computer that you can find easily like your desktop.I recommend making a new folder called Pics for T-shirts etc. Step 3:Open your create a pattern tool and click on the add sticker button as shown in image below and choose wherever you saved your image and add it Step 4:Once you add it it will look like this Step 5:Using the hand tool" the picture of the hand" click on the new pic you added in the stickers area and drag it to the large square as show in this photo Step 6:Now resize your picture like shown in the photo below. You can resize by dragging out the corners of your pic and then can also move it around by dragging it.But make sure to follow the picture below this picture as a guide, I made a basic male/female t-shirt template that works on alot of Sims3 shirts for you as a guide. Basic image placement template for t-shirts*NOTE*for more advanced clothing like hats etc read advanced advice at the end. Step 7:Now match your background color to your pictures color as shown in images below.Every color is possible using the color wheel tool and it is always best to match the outer color of your image.Mine is white.Leave the image up as you have it currently after background color and after the next images i will show fast way to put in game.Yes you are done congratulations lets put it in your game. Are you tired of putting your creations on the exchange only to have to photoshop some letters on it to say its the "FOX DEN" club or whatever it may be??.Want to have any type style and color letters written on your community or residential lots for real??? In this tutorial I will teach you how to make your building have letters on it just like in the image below. And later as a bonus i will add a trick to make your building stand apart from the rest and add a personal flair to it. Maybe you want to show where your sim lives..yes this house is at 643 Vista Blvd in starlight shores. Or just add humor to your game like my friend Franklear1980 made seen below..lol outhouse and those signs = Step 1 First things first this is not a tutorial on how to use the create a pattern tool but we will be using it so those who already have it and know how it works go to step 2.For those that need help or want to get the create a pattern tool use the link below to learn all you need.It is a link to my personal custom shirt making thread. http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/566924.page Step 2 Find your letters. You can get them 2 ways either by searching for them online or by making your own in Any style color font type and background you want easily.Just use your paint program or similar program as long as it has letters. Then just change font size to max size and type the letter you need...See images below. Then export as usual to add them to your stickers Now get all the letter stickers needed for your project as seen below into your sticker area. Step 3 Making the pattern.First change your background to match the color you will be using because if you make a mistake the border will not show.In examples shown I will be using Lightning blue Neon letters and My tutorial diner is going to be called the SIMS 3.My background is black for the letters I am using. I am using letters like this Step 4 For this tutorial I will be stretching the letter image to fill entire center square of pattern area since I will be making a LOW type lettering area.MORE ON LOW AND HIGH LATER.But for making HIGH just stretch letter but dont make it so close to the top of the center square, the bottom stays the same but the top cant be so high to the top once you learn its not confusing trust me. Just repeat this process till you have all your letter patterns and put them into your game as usual. We are half done already go to next step Step 5 Adding your letters.Very important to remember after you follow my steps always do 1 letter at a time.Ok here we go. As seen in image above color your building as usual Step 6 Placing the letters.I cant stress this enough "ONLY DO 1 LETTER AT A TIME!!" As shown below slap a panel of the wallpaper paneling etc you used onto the spot on your building where your first letter will go as shown below. I will be using the LOW type because I want a diner with the letters above the door. The HIGH type is used for lettering beside doors and or each side of a door.It looks amazing and that is a personal preference thing so do what you like but i recommend doing my style first till you get better. As seen in image below place your first letter on the correct area of the wallpaper or panel piece you are using then color the rest to match your building.Repeat these steps tills you have all your letters in place. Congrats you are done and you have letters on your place.I will show you 2 finished product pics and then in a few minutes will teach you how to make your building POP by adding a personal touch of your own as if the letters were not enough  using the technique i just showed you COOL HUH??? but it still needs that extra something and next i will show you how.1.9KViews1like34Comments
