[PC] Possible workarounds for Mass Effect Legendary Edition launch problems.
If the game does not start for you, there are several possible workarounds: NEW February 2023: If the MELE Launcher is not running after switching to EA app. Go to your "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Game\Launcher" folder. Right click the "MassEffectLauncher.exe" > Properties > compatibility. Disable "Run as Administrator" > Click "OK" That should allow you to run MELE again. If you changed the global settings inside the "Manage 3D Settings" panel of the NVIDIA control panel anytime in the past, look at this post. Disable "Controlled folder Access" of the Windows defender. Disabling OneDrive folder protection. Corruptions in the "License" folder might also keep the games from starting. Make sure Origin and Steam are closed. Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time Copy and paste C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EA Services into the new window > hit ENTER. Move the "License" folder to your Desktop > Test. A overprotective Virus scanner or other security software could also block the access to game files. (If you use "Sophos Home Premium" or other Sophos products look at this post and this post .) Disabling Bluetooth on some motherboards fixed the issues for some players as well. The Nahimic audio service, which is installed with the Realtek audio drivers from some motherboard manufacturers like MSI or Asus, causes many problems, and here it does too, it seems. (The Realtek stand alone audio drivers normally don't have the Nahimic software installed.) ROG's Sonic Radar 3 is one of the apps that uses it. If you use a VPN, look at this post. Check if the regional settings of your EA account (not Origin) is set right . If you have the game on Steam and it will only launch Origin but not the game, a possible cause is in this thread. (Warning! This requires some deeper computer knowledge.) Notice: The games will not run on Windows 7. LE1 & LE2 will not run on CPUs with only 2 physical or logical cores. (You need 4 logical cores.) Fixed: If you have a Windows user name with special characters in it: Either: create an new Windows user account with only ASCII characters in it. > Reboot > Log on to the new account > Test. Or: Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time. Type or copy and paste "control" into the new window. (Without the quotes) > Hit ENTER. Choose "Region" > Administrative Tools > Change Locale > Check "Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support" > klick "OK" Reboot > Test. This issue was fixed with Patch 1.03 It looks like the game requires a CPU with AVX instruction set It turned out that only the Launcher needs the AVX instruction set. Almost all CPUs built for end consumer use in the last 10 years have this instruction set. However, if you are not sure, you can check the technical specifications of your CPU on the manufacturer's website. If you have this problem, in this post by is a workaround for the problem. (As always, use third party tools at your own risk.) This issue was fixed with Patch 1.0354KViews46likes448CommentsME1 audio issue - dialog & sfx in surrounds instead of center
Mass Effect 1 dialog and sfx audio is coming from the rear/surround speakers instead of the center channel, meaning that conversations, weapons fire etc are all coming from behind the player instead of in front. Happens regardless of LPCM, DTS or Dolby output settings or speaker config (5.1 or 7.1) Mass Effect 2 & 3 are not affected by this problem. ** update v1.03 does not fix the problem ** **PSN store refunded my purchase on June 11th, 2021** After lodging a refund request with the Sony PSN store 9 days ago, they now have refunded the full purchase price. If anyone else wishes to do likewise, the process I used was requesting a refund under the store's "faulty item" policy. PSN Support staff will ask you to follow a number of troubleshooting steps to confirm that the issue is with the game and not your console. You may be asked to provide video of the problem. Please note that the PS4/5's Share function *does not* capture the problem, as it internally downmixes from 5.1 surround to 2.0 channel stereo. If you have an HDMI-based video capture that also captures 5.1 audio, then consider using this instead. In my case , my only option was to video the problem using my phone's camera, panning between the front and surround speakers to show where the sound was incorrectly coming from. I also included video of a normally functioning game for comparison. It's also worth advising them that this problem also occurrs on the PC version, due to an outdated OpenAL32.dll file. While this file can be replaced manually by PC users, PlayStation users are dependent on EA/Bioware to fix the problem, which lies in the game's audio engine code. The details for the PC fix are here : https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2487160511 @EA_David , as your team have failed to address or even acknowledge this problem, Sony Support have, in this case, seen fit to classify this game in it's current state, as a faulty product, and as such, have issued a full refund. Perhaps you might now seriously consider fixing this issue, before other players have their purchases refunded as well.21KViews45likes163CommentsMass Effect Legendary Edition - 7 June Update

I'm playing on PC, using EA Desktop beta. I just finished ME1 in the Legendary Edition, and imported the character into ME2. To my surprise, I found that I could select any of the bonus powers that are normally unlocked by gaining the loyalty of your squad. I also got all of the "previously played ME2" bonuses, including extra XP, resources, etc. Curious, I went to look at the achievements menu in the game, and all of the achievements are already unlocked. Now I did play the original ME2 before, and unlocked all the achievements there. Is it possible that the ME2 Legendary Edition somehow took the state from that? The original ME2 is not currently installed on this PC. That explanation doesn't quite explain everything, though, since even the "cross-game" achievements such as Insanity I, II and III, Paramour I, II and III, etc. are all unlocked. I did play original ME1 (and 2 and 3) on Insanity way back when, but in the legendary edition I used Hardcore. Obviously, original ME2 didn't have these cross-game achievements so I have no idea where they're coming from. I checked in ME3, and it too is showing all achievements unlocked. If I go back to ME1 however, it only shows the achievements I actually got in the Legendary Edition, so e.g. Insanity I, II and III are all still locked. EA Desktop doesn't seem to have a way to view achievements outside of the game. I checked in Origin, and it's saying I didn't get any achievements yet, not even the ones I definitely did unlock in ME1LE. I don't particularly care about the achievements, but I'm very confused by this whole thing. Does anyone have any idea what could be going on here?Solved24KViews30likes252CommentsME2 lost achievements, no advanced training available
I gained a new loyalty power today and when I did the advanced training, I couldn't change powers. Come to find out, my achievements were missing. I no longer have any achievements for recruiting squad members or the completing loyalty missions. Is this giant mess up going to be fixed NOW or very soon because I really don’t want to play, if I can’t get the benefits. if you’re going to respond “just start over” don’t bother responding, because that is both extremely rude and massively unhelpful. ETA: this happened after today’s update edited title for increased visibility. -puzzlezaddictSolved13KViews24likes313Comments[INFO] Mass Effect LE - Common Game Fixing Mods
Hey there, We know that many of you enjoy using Mods to help shape and change the game in different ways and you are aware that here on EA Forums we have a standing rule that links for Mods are a no-go. This rule is not changing. But we have recognized that some Mods have become standard go-tos for fixing some smaller game issues that have not been addressed so far, and that it has been frustrating to both community members and our Heroes not to be allowed to share them here. With this being said, we have given permission for this thread to be here because we are hoping that it will help you, our players, to play. It will be maintained by our Heroes to house links to mods that they support as solutions to common game issues. To affirm: EA, BioWare, and the Community team have not verified these mods, their safety to your PC, or game. We encourage you to use safe practices when downloading and utilizing any Mod from any location by using appropriate anti-virus/anti-malware tools and checks.17KViews23likes4Comments[BUG] ME1 Framerate drop after killing docile salarians on Virmire
When killing the docile salarians in their cell on Virmire, the framerate is reduced to an unplayable level. Saving and reloading doesn't fix it. Shutting down the game and resuming also doesn't work. The only thing that seems to resolve it is loading an earlier save. I tried this twice and it happened each time.
