[GUIDE] Basic steps for game issues
Try the following steps in order if your Sim has shows any weirdness. Issues can often be cleared up with these. Use the cheat resetsim <firstname> <lastname> to reset a particular Sim in your town. You won't loose any progress, all it does is put the Sim to a safe location from where he can start acting again. You can also use testingcheats and shift-click on the Sim and use debug (Object). Go traveling Go to Manage world and move your Sim out of his home and then back into the same one. If you have money troubles, use the cheat freerealestate. Go to Manage world and move your Sim out of his home and then back into a different one. If you have money troubles, use the cheat freerealestate. Restart the game or the computer Load a backup game. Start a new game to see if the error is only happening in the current save game. Make sure to completely close down your game before starting a different game. Not just go to the main menu. Start the game with Load instead of Resume Start the game in windowed mode If that all fails, try a Clean User Folder Approach.44Views1like0Comments[GUIDE] Loading/Saving Error Codes and LastExceptions
There are two different kinds of error codes in Sims 4: Save Errors and Loading Errors. The save errors won't let you save your game while loading errors occur when trying to load into a lot. Both of these errors also throw LastExceptions. This article will give you some pointers as to what you can do to troubleshoot them or how to get the best help. With all of this it's important to test without mods/cc. Best is to try a clean folder with just your save game put back. Also check the compiled bug list for known errors. Save Errors Save errors only pop up in live/build mode. If you save on the map you won't get an error code. Most often the game still won't save on the map though, you just won't realize it hasn't. Save Errors can be anything from a couple of digits (e.g. Error code 22) to a long string. Causes include corrupt save games, outdated mods/cc and bugs. If you run across any, it's best to create your own thread in The Sims 4 Gameplay Questions & Issues and provide as much info as possible for troubleshooting help. Before posting, make sure you test without mods/cc. Provide any LastException files you might get. Load Errors Load Errors occur when you try to load a certain lot in either build or live mode. Typically you are thrown back to the map when a load error occurs. Load Errors typically have three parts: <three digits>:<eight digits>:<more digits>. In most cases only the first two parts are important, in some cases only the first part. I've yet to see a case where the third part was of any importance. You'll find some explanations of the most common ones below. Load Errors have a wide range of causes and I don't want to get into them in too great details here. You can find some troubleshooting information here: Loading a family just reloads the map. If none of these tips help you, it's best to create your own thread in The Sims 4 Gameplay Questions & Issues and provide as much info as possible for troubleshooting help. Before posting, make sure you test without mods/cc. Provide any LastException files you might get. Known Load Errors For current specific codes, please check the compiled list. In a vanilla game, you won't realize that they occur unless there's also a visual problem in the game (resets, distorted UI, ..). Mods like Better Exceptions and MC Command Center display these within the game so you always know when something happens. The errors are game errors though and you'll also get them without these mods installed unless one of them is the cause in the first place. The file gets written to your user folder so you can find them in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4. A lot of these are actually harmless but they can be an indication of something bad going on in your game. If you have any issues, a LastException is always the first place to look as it can give you an indication of where to start. You can open the file with any text editor and read it. They aren't easy to understand but look for mod names in there that can point you to possible outdated mods. There are also Discord servers out there that can help you decipher them. If you need help with LastExceptions for unmodded games, make sure to post them in the forums. You can't upload them though, you need to copy/paste the content or upload them to OneDrive or Google Drive (make sure it's public) and provide the link in your forum post.76Views0likes0Comments[GUIDE] Clean User Folder Approach
Most often when you come to the forums with an issue, you'll be asked to try a clean user folder to see if that solves your issue. This method is used to narrow down whether you have a more general issue or there's a problem in for example your save game. This does not mean you will need to ditch your save game and start over. If you follow the steps given, all your data is safe and can be put back into the game at any time. The most important point is that you don't delete anything. Deleting means it's gone. Moving or renaming a folder means it's just temporarily somewhere else and the game can't find it. Please refer to this post if you need pictures: Resetting the game to factory settings without reinstalling This method can be used for both modded games and vanilla ones. Make sure the game is closed Make a backup of The Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts to different place on your hard drive or to an external or flash drive. Repair the game through the EA app or verify your files through Steam. Open the folder Documents > Electronic Arts Rename the The Sims 4 folder to The Sims 4_Backup Start the game A new The Sims 4 folder will be recreated in Documents > Electronic Arts which the game will now use. Test if the error is still present on a new save game. Error is still present: Delete the newly generated The Sims 4 folder and rename The Sims 4_Backup to The Sims 4. This will recover the status from before you started this tutorial. Try other troubleshooting steps or report back in the thread where you were asked to do this. You are done with this tutorial. Error is gone: Start putting all your old data back into the newly-created folder. (See 9-4) Copy the files from The Sims 4_Backup to The Sims 4, one folder at a time as described below. Start with your save games (saves) and test if the error is also gone for your current save game. The save will be loaded without all your Mods/CC as those are still missing. This means that all your clothing/hair/objects will be removed from your Sims. Because of this, always work on a copy of your save until you find the cause of your error. If the error ist still present, it's possible that your save game is corrupt or that there's simply a bug that can't be solved from your side. Try an older backup if you have one. Also try other troubleshooting steps or report back in the thread you were asked to do this. Do make sure to continue with this tutorial so you have all your important stuff back. Now copy the rest folder by folder and file by file. Not all files need copying back. Some of them are cache files that will be recreated and can be the source of the issue. Test after moving each file or folder. If the game stops working, you know where to look for the cause. Files not mentioned here do not need copying back. Options(.ini): Contains all settings which you chose in Game Options except the ones that are saved per save game (like aging and autonomy). It's better to re-set all options manually, but you can also simply copy back the file. Test if the game still runs. Screenshots: The screenshots you have taken in-game. Custom Music: If you have any custom music, put the files back. Tray: All your houses, Sims and rooms. If the game starts to act up again, separately put back each set of files, grouped by date modified, and test to see what can be saved. ConfigOverride: if you have your own configuration files. I would suggest redoing the files though if you run into issues. UserSettings.ini: If you disabled some packs/DLC within the game, put this back to prevent issues. Mods: Your custom content or mods. If the game starts to act up again, use the 50/50 method to find the culprit.99Views1like0Comments[INDEX] Constant fires

If you are unsure what's causing the stretching, please also create a new thread as there is currently no open general one. Introduction Stretching infants/toddler/children/pets are a symptom of a bug rather than a bug itself. This means, that there are many causes for it. In most cases an interaction is allowed for these groups when it shouldn't be or the animation is missing. There are other causes as they sometimes happen although the interaction has all needed. Remark: I'll be using Mods as a general term going forward. This includes all third party content you add to your game except for Sims, Custom Music and lots. The most important thing about asking for help is to be truthful about mod usage. Do the steps you're asked to do and don't just skip some and then say you did them. It helps no one if the people that are helping you think that the situation is different then it is. It's like taking something in for repair and then saying you hear some funny noise while in fact there's a bad smell. There is nothing shameful about using mods and it's up to you which ones you want to use. No one has the right to judge you for it (although any mod that raises the rating can't be discussed here at all). Mods/CC are a big part of the Sims experience but leading people trying to help you in the wrong direction is a big no-no. Being truthful can help you get back into your game very fast. Start here if you need help with your mods: Mod & CC Issues: START HERE (patch 1.118) | EA Forums - 503529248Views0likes0Comments[PC] How to Clean-uninstall Sims 4
Introduction jump to: How to Uninstall jump to: Can't Uninstall Uninstalling Sims 4 the normal way (through the EA App or Steam or Epic) removes the game's program files and some associated data, but not close to everything. So for certain types of game issues, or when the regular uninstall process has failed to address a problem, a clean uninstall is warranted. There are several ways to perform a clean uninstall. This guide uses Revo Uninstaller, a free and reliable tool that removes a game and a number of hidden files at the same time. If you've already uninstalled Sims 4, you can use a tool like Piriform's CCleaner (the free version is fine) to search for and remove leftover files. I would NOT recommend removing these files manually, as you may miss some or accidentally delete data you wanted to preserve. Since you're already installing Revo and uninstalling Sims 4, I suggest clean-uninstalling the EA App as well, for a fresh start. Note: These instructions should work for many other games, but I haven't thoroughly tested anything aside from Sims 3 and 4. So while the process should be safe, I can't guarantee its success. How to Uninstall Download the free version of Revo Uninstaller (not the registry cleaner, you don't need a paid version, and the portable version is fine) from here: Revo Uninstaller (download page) Before proceeding, rename the Sims 4 folder in Documents\Electronic Arts to something that doesn't include the words "Sims 4." This will preserve your saves and other user data. In case you install the full (not portable) version and need to find it later, the executable is RevoUnin.exe and installs to C:\Program Files\VS Revo Group\Revo Uninstaller by default. Launch Revo, find Sims 4 on the list, right-click, and select Uninstall. Revo may list a couple other packs it finds and ask if you want to remove them as well. This is normal, and say yes. Note: The application size Revo lists is only for the base game, but all installed DLC (expansion/game/stuff packs/kits) will be removed as well. You may also want to uncheck the box to create a system restore point, especially if your computer is low on storage. You don't need this restore point for this particular purpose. Revo will note that all add-ons will be removed; click Yes again. When the game is uninstalled, select Moderate under "scanning modes," and click Scan. If you already tried to clean-uninstall the game and it didn't work the first time, choose Advanced instead of Moderate. When the scan is finished, you'll see a list of leftover registry entries. Click Select All and delete them. These will be recreated when you reinstall the game. You'll now see a list of leftover files and folders. Click Select All again, but before clicking Delete, review the list for anything you might want to preserve. Anything in a ProgramData or AppData folder should be removed. When you're satisfied that you won't delete anything essential, click Delete, confirm the choice, and click Finish if the window is still open. EA App Since you've already installed Revo and are probably troubleshooting a technical issue, it would be best to uninstall the EA App as well. As above, right-click its entry, select Uninstall, cancel the system restore point, and the EA App may open a window. Click Uninstall, then in the Revo window, click Moderate under Scanning modes, and Revo will present a list of registry entries. Click Select All, then Delete: you don't need or want to preserve these entries. For the leftover files and folders, click Select All, review the list and deselect anything you'd like to keep (this is unlikely, but it's worth checking), click Delete, and you're done. Close Revo, and restart your computer. Reinstalling Download a fresh copy of the EA App installer from here: Download the EA app Reinstall it, then Sims 4. If you play through Steam or Epic, that's fine, just install through that launcher instead. It is probably unnecessary to uninstall the Steam or Epic launcher, and for Steam at least, doing so could remove other Steam-installed games. For troubleshooting purposes, I would strongly suggest installing to a new location in a different folder than where the game was previously installed. Do NOT install Sims 4 anywhere inside Documents or Downloads or on the Desktop. The folder you choose should be at least one level deep on the drive of your choice, for example D:\Games\The Sims 4, not simply D:\The Sims 4. Launch the game once and make sure all your packs are loading properly. If they are, you can restore your saves, Tray files, mods and custom content, screenshots, and recorded videos (if you want to keep them) from the Sims 4 user folder you renamed before uninstalling the game. Move these files to the corresponding new folders within Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, and you'll be able to pick up where you left off. For further information on which files to restore, please see this guide, starting with step 9: Clean User Folder Approach ↑ Can't Uninstall If Revo Uninstaller does not find Sims 4 on the list of installed apps, look for a green plumbob logo: Revo may list the game under a different name. If you don't see that either, uninstall through the launcher you're using (EA App/Steam/Epic), reinstall the base game—no need to download all your packs—and try using Revo again. If that doesn't work either, or you can't uninstall the game through the launcher of your choice, close the EA App and kill the EABackgroundService in the Task Manager's background processes list. Then delete the Sims 4 folder that contains the game's program files. Make sure you delete the correct folder. The program files folder contains subfolders like Data, Delta, and Game; the user folder contains subfolders like saves and Tray. If the folder you're viewing has both types of subfolders, move the saves, Tray, and Mods (if you use mods or custom content) folders elsewhere, plus Screenshots and Recorded Videos if you care about those, then delete the Sims 4 folder. Once you've deleted this folder, you can reinstall the base game and try to use Revo again. Or you can use a different tool, for example Piriform's CCleaner (the free version is fine), to search for and remove hidden files. Check the files and folders the tool finds to make sure it does NOT delete the Sims 4 user folder. Back to Introduction53Views0likes0Comments
