Controller confused for Flightstick

Product: Star Wars: Squadrons
Platform:PC
Please specify your platform model. PC
What is your gamertag/PSN ID/EA Account name? AlbieTom
Are you playing in VR? No
Which part of the game is the issue happening in? Other
Please explain 'Other' Happens in all Areas of Gameplay
What were you doing when the bug occurred? Step by Step detail is helpful. Normal playthrough
Where did this issue occur? Please include menu name or in game location. Everywhere
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) Since I bought the game 2 weeks ago
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
How severe is your issue? Can't play
What happens when the bug occurs? The game thinks that my controller is a flight stick. I have tried using both my Logitech Rumblepad 2 controller and a PS4 wireless controller. And when I go to set up the configuration on either device Squadrons acts like it is a joystick and it makes it impossible to map the controlle properly.
What do you expect to see? I would expect to go into the controller mapping and customize it, as it is I have to go into Joystick but I can't map the entire controller
Which ship were you playing? If not applicable, just answer "no" or "none." All ships
What components were you using? Logitech RumblePad 2 and a PS4 Controller
Which customizations (if any) were you using? None

Currently the game is unplayable. I don't want to play on a keyboard, it's just not the same. I want to be able to use a controller to play but at present that is impossible as the game assumes my controller is a flight stick. As such it assumes the joystick is almost always engaged and so if I try to map the buttons it's a joystick+button config which limits the number of configurations.

  • You need a controller that's recognized as an XInput device - quickest way is to get DS4Windows and use that with your PS4 controller; I've used this myself.

For the Logitech it might work if you use x360ce or some other XInput emulator.

  • @AlbieTomI'm having the same problem with a Logitech Rumblepad. I tried the emulation suggested by the commenter here but I wasn't able to get it to work.

I hope EA issues a game update to fix this; the Rumblepad and PS4 controllers are pretty mainstream as far as gamepads go so it is really strange that the game doesn't recognize them correctly out of the box. My friend is using an Xbox 360 controller and that seems to be working fine for him but I would like to avoid buying a 2nd gamepad just for this game.
