The game is completely unplayable, DLSS Frame Generation just stops working every 3-5 minutes, DLSS Frame Generation doesn't work in HDR (it produces a texture bug on the back of Cal's head), I have to resort to using RTX HDR which incurs a 10 FPS performance hit, taking my FPS from roughly 70-80 (7680x2160) with DLSS on Balanced to 60-70.
Here's what my play-session from yesterday consisted of. I've been PC gaming for 15 years, this exceeds Batman Arkham Knight in terms of technical issues and unplayability. I've never seen a game run this bad.
This game is broken garbage.
"So this is how this evening went for me, I am on a fully capable, quite fast PC actually (RTX 4090, Ryzen 7 7800x3D, 32GB 6400 MHz CAS 30 DDR5, Win11 Pro (dual booting, same issues on Win10) game is on a very fast nVME Samsung 990 Pro (7GB read and write), HAGS is enabled) and the game was crashing at the end of this rather monotonous sequence on Jedha right as this flashback with Cere begins where you get the jump-dash ability. This happened 5 times in a row, the first 3 I assumed were a fluke, after which I did some research and disabled RT and it still happened until I did more research and it was advised to simply skip the cut-scene at the beginning to avoid the crash. This worked! After 5 times, oh and after the 4th time the game said it had to "repair the game files", whatever this repair consisted of the next mandatory shader cache build at the start of the game that usually "only" takes 2 minutes now took 10 minutes and now at random DLSS Frame Generation just decides to stop working and my FPS is locked at 28 fps! So rather than "repairing the game" it literally straight broke my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game! Anyhow, it gets better, then once in the stupid temple proper and you must "Locate brother Amais" I literally ran around not knowing where to go at for 20 minutes because the level design is completely broken. Here's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hint, don't place the path forward completely hidden next to a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gate that the player knows cannot be traversed yet because said ability to traverse said gate has not been acquired. I literally had to alt+tab out of the game and look up how to proceed! https://youtu.be/EstRH14x-4U?si=1mkhhx8tYxJoGUOc&t=91
Then, a section of fairly decent combat and then it's back at another stupid puzzle, but before I get into the puzzle let me describe the sheer joy here, DLSS 3 decided to stop working again! So I decided to experiment with pressing alt+enter to see if that would get it to work, big mistake! Now the game is windows at 1280x720! And whoops. wouldn't you know it that as of 2023 when this game was made, you can't actually change your resolution back when this happens! You can try to change your resolution and it will change but then the game will ask you if you want to keep said resolution change (funny that it doesn't ask this when it just decides to switch it to windowed 1280x720) but there is no way to confirm the resolution change! It was a pure joy sitting there for 10 minutes unplugging my controller, trying my mouse, trying to hold down spacebar, trying windowed, trying windowed fullscreen because the game saves so infrequently I didn't want to lose 20 min of progress! Somehow, miraculously, it switched back to the correct resolution (I think I selected Windowed) and now it's FUN PUZZLE TIME. Oh this puzzle is a pure delight, it's the one in the same garbage level with the hidden pathway, we are still in this level, and it consists of these two doors that you must force pull, and oh it was such a delight to force pull and push them back and forth not knowing that you must pull these stupid things hanging from the ceiling BECAUSE THE UI DOES NOT ACTIVATE indicating that you can pull them! Oh it was so much fun having to alt+tab yet again to figure this out! And then, you guessed it, it's DLSS Frame Generation bug time and we are back at 28 FPS and at this point I just wanted to punch Kal Kestis and my PC monitor repeatedly and I could give two ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥ about the storyline that follows opening up this door, I did not care whatsoever that some Jedi were running from something and got trapped or whatever, I was absolutely rage filled at this point.
Let me explain how poorly designed this puzzle is, the player should know what to do, the player should be able to visually locate the puzzle elements, the puzzle should not consist of two hanging dodads on the ceiling that said player has no indication can be interacted with because the UI breaks / is inconsistent here. Force pushing doors and pulling do-dads is not mentally challenging, this is just monotonous garbage, children's puzzle toys are more engaging than this.
At this point I have zero investment in the story, am just running and looking for the next meditation point to save the game which I did and promptly turned the game off.
If I cannot resolve the DLSS Frame Generation bug that drops my FPS down to 28 FPS then this game will 100% be uninstalled. I have no more time nor patience for such mediocrity. This will 100% be the last EA game I ever purchase purely based on the way EA has abandoned this title in the current state that it is in."
