    @APlankOfWood0

    Did you muck about in the BIOS when you got the new machine?

    Let us know how you get on with the above troubleshooting please

    If your issue continues, posting your Dxdiag report here will be helpful, thanks.

    I'll take some time to go through these steps ASAP.

    When the system was assembled, there was tinkering within the BIOS, however as of right now, I believe everything is running at stock settings. Is this something that can affect Battlefront 2 directly? As I mentioned, I have had no issues with any other games; some more demanding and resource intensive than BFII itself and they have been fine. The Dxdiag is attached also.

    @EA_Barry

    Literally having the exact same situation as @APlankOfWood0  except with a GTX 770 card.

    Without fail, after 10 minutes of flawless 60fps gameplay, I crash to desktop with the error "Nvidia Display Kernel Driver (something like that) has crashed and recovered". I tried updating my drivers and this simply made my computer reboot randomly with and without launching this game periodically until I reverted to older drivers.

    I solved my PC rebooting randomly issue, but the game still crashes after about (I swear I am about to start timing it) 10 minutes, in menu or in game, doesn't make a difference.

    This is the only game this happens with. Prior to being forced to update my drivers when I installed BF2 several months ago I never had any issues, and recently, the last few days especially, the crashes are consistent and make the game unplayable as well as have made my system seem less stable then before. Would love an answer to what can be done now that I know I am not the only one experiencing this lately.

    My girlfriend is having the issue with the crashing to desktop as you are also; we're trying to actively fix the game for myself and her as of right now! May I ask, how did you resolve the issue of your PC rebooting?

    Clean uninstall of my drivers from safe mode, then switched back to the last stable driver before I updated for the sake of this game. I checked the BF2 files to see what the oldest dated one was  (clued me in on the install date since I never tried a clean reinstall yet) and then compared it to the last driver I had downloaded before that (im pretty meticulous about graphic drivers and not redownloading them so I can always estimate timelines and stuff on how far back to revert).

    The crash and restart started happening after updating to 430.64 for GTX 770 cards, so I reverted to 347.88, the last stable driver I had before I installed and upgraded for BF2. Game runs fine for 10 minutes, I could be sitting in menu or in game, and then *boop* driver crash.

    Probably going to try reinstalling the game right now, but I already tried a repair through origin, so not sure what could be getting FUBAR that its still busted like this.

  • Tried clean reinstall of game. Same issues. Now I am able to get through a full round at least before it crashes but it always crashes without fail with the same error as soon as a new round is loaded, the screen freezes on end of round screen, then black screen and shuts the game off with the Kernel Driver Error.

    Definitely a game issue. I refuse to believe it is anything else seeing as it ONLY crashes with BF2 and ONLY when loading between rounds.

    @EA_Barry , The heck happened? The Droideka update I hope will fix this if you can't give us any good advice, otherwise idk, I'll just stop being a customer to future EA titles.

    Can you disconnect your drawing tablet, reboot and retry playing?

    In the past I have seen those devices cause an issue.

    Let us know if that has any effect, thanks.

  • @EA_Barry Nope, didn't help. I completely removed the driver for the pentablet (since I only plugged it in once to test it for my girlfriend ages ago). Still crashes.

    I have noticed it crashes more consistently whenever I am on a capital ship in CS. Usually within a minute of loading onto it after the Command Points are capped. Still also get crashes in normal game-play, but that is a lot more sporadic and not reproducible other than just...playing until it crashes, but it always without fail crashes when loading between rounds.
  • Also, to add, before it crashed on CS, I tried opening the game one other time before that and it immediately crashed my PC back to reboot.

    @xXTylonXx

    Can you either generate a new Dxdiag or post the first one in its entirety, there will be valuable info at the bottom of the file, thanks.

  • @EA_Barry

    Attached is a new dxdiag.

    Also I would like to add that I swapped out my graphics card and did a clean install of new drivers for that card just to eliminate it as a possible hardware failure since I was still getting PC reboots.

    This is still causing the same crashes, albeit, a little less frequent, I can now get through 2 rounds of GA on average before a display crash, CS is still a complete no go, crash as soon as Capital Ship phase starts and I move around for about 5 seconds after spawning.

    Computer still occasionally reboots.

    I have not ruled out if it is a power supply issue, but it really shouldn't be as I have not installed any new components into my computer since originally building it 6 years ago and the system mostly runs perfectly fine, when its not crashing from BF2 obviously. And to reiterate, BF2 ran flawlessly prior to the CS update.

    Edit: I have also started to get micro-stuttering since the mini-patch a few days ago on top of the crashes.

    @xXTylonXx

    Thanks for adding that.

    Some more stuff to try:

    Your comment about the PSU has me thinking. If you are comfortable with this: open your PC case and check all of the cable connections coming from your PSU (both ends of cables) and reseat to be sure. Again, let us know if these steps help at all. Thanks.

  • @EA_Barry

    I've been busy for the last few weeks, however, I am still encountering the reboot issue. I had hoped after the Droideka update that something would have been changed that may have fixed the problem (though it seems that update actually created a totally different problem for PC players where the game does not want to run though I have a fix for that issue, so it no longer a problem).

    As for the random rebooting, this absolutely has to be something with Battlefront 2; every other game I have (many that are more demanding in every regard) run flawlessly, however Battlefront 2 still persists to randomly reboot my PC without warning; no errors, freezes or anything else.

    Try uninstalling your Realtek Audio driver and reinstalling the latest (R2.82) from here: https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/category/pc-audio-codecs-high-definition-audio-codecs-software.

    Mostly calmed the game crash down for me, still rarely crashes, and my PC still reboots at least once every 2 days, but overall its a better time now as I can actually play the damn game. Not sure if it will solve your issue but if you've at least gotten some blue screens from the reboots that state the crash originated from something along the lines of "Rt64win7.sys" (this is a Windows 7 version of the Realtek audio driver, you're might say something else) then this should alleviate it quite a bit.

  • @xXTylonXx I'll take a look into this ASAP. I haven't been receiving any bluescreens when the game reboot my PC, however. I'm sure I configured Windows to show me them when possible, though I'll double check that option also. When the reboot occurs, a quick look in the Event Viewer lists Kernel-Power ID 41 which apparently means that not enough power was available to the system; I read a post about someone having this same problem but with Anthem and they claimed that many games such as Anthem, BF2 and others are very power hungry.

    @APlankOfWood0

    Noticed from your previous DxDiag you have a AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 2700x. On their site the OS Support is Windows 10 - 64-bit edition. I see that you're on Windows 7, any way you can update to a newer OS?

    @EA_Blueberry

    When the components were purchased, I was assured that they would be fully compatible with Windows 7 (hence why I continued to use it after upgrading); that being said, Windows 7 was an absolute pain in the backside to get working correctly. I had actually been having an issue with Borderlands 2 as of late where I was told that upgrading to Windows 10 was the only (possible) solution; I suppose that as more things become reliant on newer versions of Windows, I'll be forced into a corner sooner or later. This is something that I will look into in the coming weeks, however, if there are any other ideas that you may be able to suggest until then, that would be great!

    Curious if you were able to find a fix so others could also be aware of it. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated!

    Hey @EA_Blueberry

    Apologies! I had been meaning to get back to you for some time now (life has been crazy).

    I had actually taken a second look at my BIOS some time after my last post and found a few options that were not the stock settings. After changing everything back to stock settings, I had tested the game however I encountered the same problem; random reboot. I figured I would give the PC a thorough clean; in fact, it was good that I did because the small removable tray situated below the PSU was CAKED in dust (fortunately the power supply was more or less clean, the mesh had caught most of the dust). I gave that good clean up, played the game and for about 2 weeks the game worked flawlessly until a few days ago where I encountered the same reboot problem. I do have CPUTemp actively logging my CPU temps and nothing is overheating there however I do not know of a tool that can monitor PSU temps and log that; I am wondering if something is going on there that is causing heat problems.

    That being said, I DO have Battlefront 2 installed on my external drive (as I do most other games these days). I had an issue a few days back when rendering out a file in After Effects (a file located on that same drive) and the error had prompted me of something along the time of the drive being disconnected; physically, it was not. My thoughts now are that is may be that the external drive is being funny; I will attempt to reinstall BF2 onto my SSD and see if that helps.

    Sorry of the novel, haha! I hope what I wrote makes sense.

    TL;DR -- I thought I fixed the problem however that does not seem to be the case. External drive might be acting up. Will test that out ASAP.

    EDIT -  I reinstalled Battlefront 2 (totally fresh) onto a different drive and I had just encountered the same reboot issue after having played for a good few hours. I think it's safe to say then that the install location is not likely to be the cause. This is a huge pain! 🤐 I will be giving everything a clean again soon.
