This is a major usability issue - That design is just silly
1) First off, if this is indeed how it works now, the wording then needs to change and ‘join’ should actually be called ‘lock-in’.
2) The way the snapshot SHOULD work, is the same way as with the raid results: Once the join timer expires, you have the minute the ‘tallying of the results’ happens in the raids (which should then be the same here for GAC and TW to ‘freeze’ the toon list, and take the snapshots), and after that minute expires, THEN start the matchmaking
This whole ‘leave’ and ‘re-join’ business is just poor design and utterly confusing for players...
- GladOS-0136 years agoHero (Retired)@wdg96 Sorry you feel it’s silly. I find it to be a huge improvement, because I like to spread my arena mods out to several key toons, rather than have overkill on one team. Before, I would have to set my mods at the particular time of day and then remember to change them back. Now I can do it at my convenience, join, and immediately move them back.
The #2 description is how it used to work until this change was made. They had some technical issues with players being able to move mods around after the player lock, and this was the solution.
A current issue they have is that the countdown timer still references a countdown to “player lock” instead of “matchmaking,” which can mislead players who didn’t pay attention to the forum post - it’s been flagged for future improvement. - wdg966 years agoNew Scout
Please dont confuse the matter! You're replies have NOTHING to do with the issue at hand:
- The buttons and help text say:
'Join' -> Which signals the interest to participate in the event
'Lock-in' -> Which freezes a players inventory takes the snapshots of the toons and ships
- So I'd expect 'Join' *NOT* not to already take the snapshot of my inventory
PS: 'Broken as designed' is not an answer: At least have the courtesy to acknowledge the fact that it's confusing and needs an UI update!

I'm sorry if you found my reply confusing. You are suggesting the "Join" button be changed to "Lock-In." That is not a bug - that is a suggestion you are making what you believe will improve the game. Suggestions for improvements belong at the main forums.

However, consider a player who goes to the menu and sees "lock-in" - might they assume the game has automatically signed them up for the territory war? Having the button just indicate "lock in" could lead to a different type of player confusion, resulting in players not joining the territory war at all!
Unfortunately, as the game becomes more complicated, the devs always have to balance out tooltips and where information can be found in game. This change to the timing of player lock was a significant change, and they made a specific forum announcement to highlight the change and educate the players.
Currently the system is not "broken as designed." Your opinion is that the design could be improved, but the roster lock function is currently working as designed, therefore it is not broken.
I highly recommend that all players read any announcements and patch notes published by the studio on the main forums. Knowledge is power, and your not knowing this change obviously put you at a disadvantage. - BeWary6 years agoSeasoned Vanguard
Actually, it does seem to be bugged. Today I upgraded a bunch of toons within 30 minutes of the TW start, then with 3 minutes left until it started, I left and re-joined the TW. My upgraded toons were not upgraded when the TW started.
- GladOS-0136 years agoHero (Retired)@BeWary Can you provide your ally code so yourb issue can be investigated?
This happened to my guild as well.

Here are some SS to prove what happened. My ally code is 783-914-384

UPDATE: When I restarted the game, the updated toons showed up in TW and I was able to set them no problem. So it appears to be a client-side display problem.
- GladOS-0136 years agoHero (Retired)@BeWary Interesting! I have a guild member who upgraded his GAS to 7*, left, and re-joined, and he said he can set the 7* version on defense.
I wonder if it is just a graphical display, Deez Nutz will have a zeta Nute when he sets him on defense. - BeWary6 years agoSeasoned Vanguard@GladOS-013 Did your guild member restart the game between re-joining the TW and setting his defense? That seemed to be the key for me.
- obi1phonehome5 years agoSeasoned Novice@GladOS-013 Then they can make the button say: "Join AND lock-in". Confusion problem solved for everyone!
- LendersQuiz5 years agoSeasoned Ace@wdg96 I agree that a simple UI change would make things a bit more clear.
That being said, now that you know how it really works, you can move forward.
