Thermal throttling ? that would explain initial high fps then it drops dramatically

I should have considered this. I've not run into throttling issues before, but it's grown cold here lately and we've ramped up the heat in the apartment. I'll watch my temps and get some extra airflow to see if some simple solutions make a difference.
