Please give the GTN some more attention

Could you please encourage lower pricing on the GTN? While I love playing for the story, I have found that I have very little motivation to log in and play now. What I learned is that almost every other activity I love in game ties into the GTN: Decorating, arranging outfits, even roleplaying and running missions. Now that prices are out of hand and I've given up on the GTN, it affects all the other aspects of play for me. Even when I am a subscriber, I have lost motivation to be bothered wasting my time getting that many credits. It takes time away from the parts I love.

I understand that a large part of the problem is player expectations, the expectation that a seller should get millions for most items; nevertheless I think there is a chance to turn things around somewhat.

One solution would be making a wide variety of items available through other means. Vendors, events, far more Cartel market direct sales. More supply would help balance less player competition which accounts for a lot of the prices. Along with that, reskins and slight variants could be made available while more popular variations remain limited to their current means of acquisition. For instance, adding less popular variants of reskinned armors and basic/stripped versions of popular decorations to mission loot tables.

An alternate solution would be releasing temporary credit cap unlocks as a cartel market item. This wouldn't fix the problem but may be a workaround. In my case, it's not currently worth it for me to spend $15 a month for an entire game that I'm mostly not playing. However, I may be able to ease back into playing more if I can start with a single element that I know used to hold me in game. I think 500k, 1mil, and 5 mil credit unlocks would help, especially if they came in versions that covered multiple time frames. 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and one year might work well.

As a side note, I would suggest introducing temporary passes like that for other major aspects of gameplay. People may be more willing to pay if they can pay a little less just for the parts they still want. Temporary customization of play may help where subscribers are not enough and free to player/premium players are more scarce.

While I agree wholeheartedly that GTN prices are out of hand, it is usually just the rarest items. With the supply so low, demand will always be higher. That being said, it is up to the community as a whole to set the prices for items. This happens in two ways, 1) don't pay exorbitant prices. If the item doesn't sell, price gougers aren't rewarded. Boycotting is a powerful tool, and 2) don't sell stuff for exorbitant prices. Undercutting your competitor is part of capitalism, but if we all set prices significantly lower, the overall prices of items will also go down.

  • That may depend on the server as on Begeren Colony even common items were either expensive or not listed at all. There simply wasn't enough competition to drive prices down or ensure availability. On that note, I agree that boycotting would help, but there will never be an organized enough effort for that to work.

What's really needed is more item availability and more players listing items.Once there is more competition, it won't matter if you have that one person willing to pay 10 mil for an item. That same person will still buy the item for 300k if that is an option. Once there are enough people participating in GTN selling to provide consistently lower prices, then even the biggest spenders will have enough incentive to not indulge those higher prices.

To that end, I think what developers can do is provide more avenues for item acquisition even if they are temporary.
