Re: The Sims 2 lags when near some sims

@Toninfinite , you should probably check your Virtual Memory within your Windows OS and increase it so it mirrors the amount of RAM you have. Not only Sims 2 has problems with this, but other games as well. You can do a Google Search on exactly how to change the settings.

Please let me know if this works for you.

@mynameissstamara , again as I said to the original poster, you should check your Virtual Memory. While your computer can run the game and has the hardware and memory to do so, increasing your Virtual Memory will make the game run more smoothly. You can Google search for instructions on how to do this. This is a problem with not only Sims 2, but other games as well.

  • @Tremayne4260 I have the windows 10 pro 64 bit and an intel core 2 duo cpu processor (e7500 @ 2.93GHz). I also have 4 gb of ram on my computer and directx 12. I dont know whether the page file matters but i have 3075mb used and 6999mb available. My screen size is 1366 x 768 and has a recommended refresh rate of around 60. I have tried a lot of methods, even opening it in windows compatability mode but when i try to search how to make sims2 run faster, they tell me to install mods which i can not do as my computer does not do very well with mods and cc.

@mynameissstamara , ok the 4GB patch for Sims 2 combines all the patches ever released for Sims 2 and its expansion and stuff packs. Since the game no longer is supported by EA, several players have combined the patches that were released for Sims 2 into one giant patch for the disk version of the game. This insures that your game is up to date and corrects many bugs and issues that were found during the initial release of the game. If you play the game through Origin, you do not need the 4GB as Origin automatically updates the game when it is installed.

NRAAS was a modder who created mods for Sims 3 which fixed many of the issues the game had. Those mods will not work for Sims 2 or 4.

In order to increase your Virtual Memory, you need to Google search specifically for "How to increase your Virtual Memory". You do not need to add Sims 2 or any other game title to find these instructions.

@mynameissstamara , are you using any mods or CC? Can you post a screenshot of what the sim looks like? Have you tried playing the game at all and are they still shinny?

  • @Tremayne4260 Sorry i took so long to reply, i had to deal with microsoft because my computer literally malfunction in which i had to download windows 8.1 onto my computer. I did reinstall the sims 2 but now in create a sim the screen flickers when i zoom in and out and the room disapears when i zoom out and it shows the outside setting. I have attached my new dxdiag thing.

@mynameissstamara , ok the camera and graphics problems are due to not having the game properly recognize your graphics card because it is probably newer than when the game came out.

The easiest way to fix this is to download and use Graphics Rule Maker to edit your Graphics Rule.sgr file. You'll need to Google search to find the program itself and you can find additional help from Leefish's forum as well. Also Google search to find it as well.

@mynameissstamara , oh I had one of my friends who also helps out here on AHQ look at your DxDiag and apparently you need to check your USB drivers as many of your errors relate to your drivers being not powerful enough. Again, Google search on how to do this as I have no idea personally and would advise you to find either a YouTube video on the subject or step by step instructions.

  • @Tremayne4260 Yeah I have a problem with the front USB ports and was advised to go to a local technician , thank you anyways. I have seen a huge improvement in the game and it looks better, although i get this random glitch when the sims hair turns black and white and the world looks like the template of an oven. Scared the sims out of me 😅

@mynameissstamara , if it's the ports themselves, then yes, you should go see a local computer repair technician or shop.

In regards to the glitch, is it a CC hair or one of the ones within the game?

Within the game. I was just playing the game and all of the sudden one of my characters with cornrow hair had this black and white glitch. I could not take a photo or screenshot because it did not save. and when i zoomed out of the world it turned black and white and it was the outline of an oven. Creeped me out a bit and i haven't played it all day because of it.

@mynameissstamara , try to start another game in the same neighborhood and see if it happens again. Just trying to narrow down the problem. 🙂

@mynameissstamara , ok try this as I want to reset the game to vanilla state. Don't worry your saved games will be safe with what I am going to have you do. Locate your Sims 2 folder (found Documents > EA Games > Sims 2) and move this folder to your Desktop. Do not copy and paste or create a short cut. Actually move the folder to your Desktop. This folder is where your saved games are stored. Next start up the game and allow time for a new folder to generate. Once you see the neighborhood screen pop up, start a new game and play for about an hour or so to see if the glitch happens again.

    Please keep me updated.
