Hello, so I had realm of magic dlc for a while. I had the cc content before this dlc. I have created magical sims in the past and had option for duelling and the phone notifications for duel challenge invites. Recently I have installed outdoor retreat, Discover university, Jungle retreat and there was a live event released.

After getting new dlcs I removed old sims and recreated as wanted to start again. Had my new female sim go to realm of magic, with the magical knowledge aspiration. Levelled to where she could duel, I had to friendly duel option once when first getting to correct level. I have not received a single text for a duel challenge the entire time and for the past week not had the option to duel exit for any sim I click, even the magical sims I am best friends with, still don't have option.

I have already tried removing all cc, uninstalling game completely and reinstalling, creating a new sim and levelling. Still no duel options or even texts for being challenged to a duel. All the spellcasters I have made have been female.

Yes, renaming folders is different from renaming files, Reinstalling should not be necessary.

Try resetting your user files as described in the factory reset described in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps-amp-Known-Issues/m-p/3621199

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files  and make a backup.

After renaming, repair your game by right clicking on the game in Origin.

Try on a new game with nothing added back first (start new game). If it works, put back your save game and try again. If it still works, you can start putting stuff back.

    • Options.ini (or just re-set all your settings manually)
    • Tray Folder
    • Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
    • Rest of the save games (leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave and no longer needed - if you still have it)
    • Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, make up ....
    • ConfigOverride, if you have your own configuration files.
    • Mods (one by one, making sure they all still work)

The rest does not need putting back, cause they are mostly cache files that recreate or log files that are not needed for the game.

  • As I said in the report I tried creating a whole new sim/world after this to see if it was just that save/sim. It has happened with 3 female magic sims now. The first originally did have an option to duel, some notifications and then stopped after gaining a level. The second had the option to duel once, none of the challenge to duel text notifications and no options to duel after. This new sim has had no option to duel, none of the notification texts you get for being challenged to a duel either. I just created a new sim in the last few hours, made her a spellcaster, levelled her, she got the option to duel at the start, I kept levelling her and then she lost the option when gaining a level.

Is renaming user folder something different? I mean I do rename my save files from 'save file 6' to 'nighttime family' as an example.

I can try uninstalling, reinstalling again. Are there files/folders I can delete in the sims 4 folders that won't affect the game from running to try wiping back to scratch? Or say some kind of setting to run to see if repairs? As I said, it was working fine up till installing new dlcs, the live event happening and deleting old sims and making anew. Couldn't tell you if it the new dlcs or the live event or coincidence. Does it make a difference that these purchases were made and downloaded through steam?

  • Hello Crin,

I haven't been able to play the sims 4 that much recently to fully test. However, the factory reset by removing files and starting again so far seems to of worked. Thanks a tonne, in future with issues I now know I can completely clear the sims 4 folders to reset the game. I'll let you know if the issue re-occurs at all.

    Many Thanks
