Re: My Sims 4 Game Keeps Minimizing

@Shareeqa_h  The dxdiag crashed and didn't record a lot of the relevant data.  Asides from the missing info, that's not a great sign in general.  So start with a couple of basic checks on your Windows system files.  Here's how to run them:

  • Hit Windows key-X
  • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
  • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes into the window, and enter
  • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
  • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
  • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator)”
  • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes into the window, and enter
  • Post the message you receive here

If sfc says it found corrupt files and was unable to repair some of them, stop here.  Otherwise, please manually run any pending updates.  Hit Windows key-i, choose Update & Security, and click the button to check for updates.  If there are a number of them pending, it might take a few tries (with system restarts in between) to get them all to run.

When you're done, please post another dxdiag so I can see if the missing info is present.

@puzzlezaddict I did the command prompts. After running the second one this is the message I got:

    Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.18362.720]

    (c) 2019 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan.  This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.

    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>

After that I had some updates that needed to be installed. A windows 10 update and virus scanner update. And then I ran the Dxdiag again so here it is.

@Shareeqa_h  That dxdiag looks much better, thanks.  The most obvious issue is that the driver for your integrated graphics chip is from 2017, and the Sims 4 errors are probably at least mostly related to the driver.  You can download a new one here:

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29465/Intel-Graphics-Windows-10-DCH-Drivers?product=95598

However, your laptop's hardware is quite weak for Sims 4, and even more so for Cats & Dogs.  The game still shouldn't be minimizing right away, but it's still not likely to run particularly well.  You might see crashing and freezing, lag, graphics glitches, etc., and the question will be whether it's worth it to you to keep playing with that pack.  If not, you can disable it in Origin and play with your other content; if you have expansions that are newer than C&D, you might want to try disabing them too.

If the game does just minimize, try disabling Origin in-game.  Hover over your username, select Application Settings, then Origin in-game, and turn it off.  Let me know if this doesn't help either.

@puzzlezaddict Thank you so much for your help! Nothing worked so I'm assuming it's just my computer so I had to disable the packs. Thank you anyway. 🙂
