Re: My new mods folder won't let me get CC

@SaphiraChrist  Okay, let's start from the beginning.  Open Documents > Electronic Arts and move the Sims 4 folder to the desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Your saves and other user content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily not read by the game.  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just load a new save to make sure it works.  Make sure to enable mods and custom content again, since they'll be off by default.

If the new save is fine, download ONE mod or cc item, add it to Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods, load the game, and see whether that item is present.  If it is, you can start adding more mods and/or cc to the same Mods folder a little at a time; be sure to keep testing the game.  If it stops loading or you get an error, you'll know that something in the last batch of files is a problem, and you can remove the entire batch or test the files in smaller groups until you find the problem.

When all your mods and cc are in place, you can copy your saves to the new Sims 4 folder; they're inside saves, unsurprisingly.

@BigmamaJudie  Are you the same poster as before, just under a different username?  If so, then yes, you can download and install new mods and custom content.  It's best to install just a little cc at a time, and one mod at a time, and test the game: if there's a problem, you'll know you need to remove whatever you just downloaded.

@SaphiraChrist  As long as you're using mods, there's a chance that your game will break.  If you want to be safe, you can set aside the Sims 4 user folder after each patch, as in, before you launch the game for the first time after the update.  Then you can test the mods and cc in a clean Sims 4 folder, and if everything looks fine, go ahead and put the old folder back.  That way, your existing folder won't be affected by any problems.

It's also a good idea to back up your saves periodically, just in case there's a problem with a mod, or even with the game itself, that's not immediately obvious.  You can delete the older backups when you make newer ones.

@BigmamaJudie  I actually meant the opposite: move the entire Sims 4 folder out of the way after a patch, load the game to create a clean folder, and put only your mods back so you can test them without affecting your saves.  But there's more than one way to approach this, so however you want to do it is fine.  Just keep in mind that mods often break after a patch.

@SaphiraChrist  Open Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4, right-click on the saves folder, and select Copy.  Then right-click on your desktop and select Paste.  From there, you can move the folder wherever you want.  Elsewhere on your computer is okay, but better would be to store it on an external drive or USB stick, or upload it to a free filehosting service like Google Drive or Dropbox.  If you do upload the folder, zip it (right-click and select Compress) first.

@BigmamaJudie  Yes, that's a good thing, but you may want to make a spare copy of your saves as well, just in case.  You can copy the saves folder and paste it onto your desktop or anywhere else you want.
