Sims 4 Buggy After July 2019 Update

Is anyone else having a problem with their game after the July 2019 update? My game has progressively gotten worse and to the point where I can no longer play. Started with not being able to travel back home from visiting a lot. The loading screen would continue to load and never complete. Had to "Task Manager" the game. Then, could not save the game. The save circle just kept rotating, never completing. Had to "Task Manager" the game. I started seeing all the sims pictures in the relationships list disappear. Finally, sim starting freezing and just could not play anymore. When all this started happening, I did the usual....removed mods, repaired game, reset the Sims 4 folder, repaired game, added mods back in one by one to find broken mods. I did find one that was out of date. After updating, I thought it was fixed but, within in minutes, I started having the same problems. I decided that save file was corrupt so I opened a new saved game to play and confirm. That played well for about an hour and then started having the same issues. I've done all the things suggested online in regards to mods, resetting, repairing but nothing works. I came to the conclusion that there must be a bug or bugs in the game after the last update? Could someone please confirm this for me so I can stop removing mod folders, repairing game, resetting folders, etc.....

Thank you.....

  • @flcolley I am so sorry for all of your frustration!! I am wondering if I could get you to go through your routine one more time just in case there is anything that may be slightly different... or it may get caught this time... then I will share a few additional thoughts and options...

I would recommend a game repair along with removing the cache (as follows) and see if this helps.

Please remove the Mods/CC in this process and try the troubleshooting as described below:

    • Exit your game then exit Origin. Copy the Mods folder from your 'The Sims 4' folder onto your desktop (for future reference) then delete the mods folder and the localthumbnailcache.package file in your 'The Sims 4' folder. (When you restart the game will re-create the Mods folder if you deleted it.)
    • Then run a game repair [ Open Origin, click 'Game Library' then right-click Sims 4 > Repair Game ]. Make sure to let it run until it has completed all repairs (it will do the base-game first, then run through each of your expansions/packs). After that, please see if the issue has stopped.

If It fixes the situation I would recommend that you check with the Mod and CC creators to see if there are any known issues with their Mod/CC clashing with the recent update and if so do they have an updated Mod/CC that will address the changes in the game's code from the update. You can then re-add your updated Mods/CC one at a time to see if one was conflicting with the function/causing the glitch - but do not re-add the old config file from the old mods folder, as it is possible for it to have become corrupted also.

Also, I would not recommend re-adding any Mod that you don't have confirmation is working in the game's current version. It is definitely possible that one or more of your Mod makers, even if they made an updated version, is still causing an issue and damaging your game. Plus it possible that their update did not entirely fix the Mod. The top priority needs to be that your game code is playing correctly. There are a number of current bugs in the game as-is, let-alone also combining Mod codes into it (or Custom Content), so there is that.😬

This is a huge game and quite complex. I would love to see you get the actual game running right as the first priority. Plus, remember, once the Mod has been tried and breaks the code again you will need to start back over with all of the above steps to try to repair the damage and remove the cache, etc. Good luck, I hope it takes this time, and I hope you will update us as we are happy to help you continue in the troubleshooting process. 🤞

  • Hi @flcolley

Just to add a few things.. with every new pack the requirements 'jump' as well.. Especially with: The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs, Seasons and Get Famous. Have you checked your pc specs against the requirements in a while? >>

    Spoiler

I'll give you 2 links that may help you with the requirements as they increase quite a bit for the game to run well.

I use a lot of mods also, so realize the intricacies of them, it sounds like you're used to the drill of maintaining them. I use a heap of folders for them, which also makes culling/checking quicker when needed. There are a few more tips at my post here on maintaining your game with mods. As it still reads to me as you have something conflicting, for sure..

There are also a few discord servers (like the one for MCCC) which help you with the mod in question, and others.

@Sashas0nic I'm actually happy to hear that you use so many Mods as I really need someone as a source and to bounce Mods questions off of sometimes. Would you mind if I occasionally tag you in a post if needed for Mod assistance? @PugLove888 and I were recently chatting about needing a solid resource for this since we have both consciously chosen not to play with Mods or CC. I am going to look up your referenced post on Mod upkeep now and bookmark it, also. :eahigh_file:

    Hi @SheriGR

Yes, I occasionally read helpers answer/posts on mods and cc use, only to be confused myself so, tbh: happy if you tag me, and if you do refer people to my post on maintaining their game; please tag me also as it often takes a mod/cc user to understand my references at that post. (so no copy/pasting either) 😉

Have also sent you a pm
