Re: My Sims 4 won't run 64bit version

Hi, the game is opening now that I've moved the file out of documents and turned off OneDrive but it doesn't read my saves or my mods/cc. Diag attached below.

@LaLadyPanda  Moving the Sims 4 user folder also moved your saves and other user data to a location where the game can't read them.  That's fine—they'll be recognized again once you put them back.  However, you'll first need to test your mods and custom content to make sure they're working properly.  Use the 50/50 method if you have a lot of files to test:

    https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Finding_Problem_Custom_Content#The_50.25_Method

Once you've done that, you can move over the contents of the saves and Tray folders (better that than the folders themselves), and your saves and Library items will be restored as well.

Long term, I'd suggest either getting rid of OneDrive or preventing it from syncing the contents of Documents.  The various options are covered a few sections into the first post of this thread:

Thank you for all the advice. I've done all these things and checked all my mods/cc/tray files/saves for corruptions or updates. Even with no mods/saves/tray files etc, the game will not open for me. When it does open, it is still not readding any of my saves ( I did just the saves with zero mods/trayfiles.) I'm not sure what else I can do. Oh, and I completely blocked the One Drive also before attempting any of these and I tried redownloading the sims and changing where it downloads to and reads from and the EA app still won't let the game open or read my save files, of which there are only two since I got rid of all my old saves in case they were corrupt.

@LaLadyPanda  It sounds like you may have a secondary Sims 4 folder, one the game is reading and from which you haven't removed mods.  To check, please download Everything, from VoidTools, which is a free search tool that's much more efficient than Windows search.  Open it and search for GameVersion.txt , and see how many results it finds.  For any copy you have, rename the Sims 4 folder that holds it, which will prevent the game from reading its contents.  Then try again to play.

Please also list the full file path to your Documents directory, as Windows sees it.  To find that file path, search in Windows for Command Prompt, open it, and enter this command:

reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "Personal"

    Please post the result here.

I think the issue is that there's two Users for me, one named LLP and one named porto. I can get the game to load but its the blank 32x version. No dlc, saves, anything. (btw you're an absolutely tech guru angel thing for helping me with this).

@LaLadyPanda  When the game loads, what is the path to the user folder it's reading?  Here's how to find out:

    https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2018/07/how-to-find-your-user-folder/

Please also list the install location of Sims 4, as seen in the EA App.  Open your game library, click Sims 4, and select Manage > View properties, and you'll see this:

Finally, please use Everything to search for a save.  Type Slot_0000000 (seven zeroes should work: it'll cut down the number of results but should still find some) and let me know what file path you see.  Another screenshot like the one you've already posted is fine.  Do the same for the folder for one of your expansion packs, for example Seasons is EP05.  Here's a full list of the folder names:

    https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/extras-2/available-packs-dlc/

I want to cover all the bases, to see where everything is at the same time.

Ok I got everything you asked for. The last screenshot will be in the next reply as I'm limited to three per post I think.

@LaLadyPanda  The screenshots are very helpful here: it turns out you have multiple copies of your saves (or at least one of them), and multiple copies of the game's program files.  I would strongly suggest cleaning up the latter before trying to get the game to work again.  But before doing anything else, back up your saves.

I don't know what is in each saves folder, so it's best to preserve everything and go through it later, only deleting potential duplicates when you're sure you have the data you want to use.  Create a folder on your desktop called "Backup saves."  For each of the saves folders listed in your second screenshot, first put a number on the end of the folder name (saves 1, saves 2, etc.), then move that folder into "Backup saves."  You'll probably have identical copies of some saves, but like I said, better that than the alternative.

Do the same for the Tray and Mods folders that are in the same location as your saves.  If any folder is empty (or in the case of Mods, only has a Resource.cfg file), go ahead and delete it.

Once you've done that, download Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine) and use it to uninstall Sims 4, and the EA App for good measure.  If any of the Sims 4 folders in your second or third screenshots are still present when you're done, delete them and empty the trash.  For reference, the simsx back up folder on your Desktop and the other Sims4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts both contain duplicates of at least some of the game's program files, and this can confuse the EA App now and if you buy any new packs in the future.  So they both need to go.

When you've done this, use Everything to search for TS4_x64.  You should find zero results, but if any copies are left, and they're nested somewhere within a "The Sims 4" folder, delete that entire Sims 4 folder too.

Finally, reinstall the EA App and then Sims 4.  For the game, please either use the default install location:

    C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 4

or create a new folder into which you'll install the game.  Your current install is inside Program Files\Electronic Arts, which is actually the folder that holds the EA App's program files, and it's best to keep those separate from the game files.

Start the game once and confirm that your packs are all loading properly.  If they are, you can move one or two saves to the new Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts, and try to load those too.  Let me know how it goes.

Ok I've uninstalled and removed EA and The Sims 4 (I backed up all my saves, mods, tray files firt) but when I run Everything, I get these results and I don't have permission to delete them somehow.

@LaLadyPanda  You don't need to delete those files.  I just meant delete any copies of TS4_x64.exe you find, not any file or folder with that string in its name.  These files are just error reports and other hidden data, nothing that affects how the game itself runs, at least under normal circumstances.

    GUESS WHAT??

I got it to work! There were so many issues redownloading EA and Sims but I was able to mitigate it and then I did 50/50 adding saves and mods back and found that one CC file was corrupted. I had to repair the game every time I added something in lol but it all works now finally!

I wish there was someway to repay you for all your help hard work and dedication to helping me. I'm a Sims streamer and EA content creator and haven't been able to play or create content for weeks. My whole community is excited for the comeback now. Thank you so so much! You're amazing!

@LaLadyPanda  I'm so glad to hear everything's working now.  If you want to make a gesture in appreciation of the time I spent (and I was glad to spend it), give something away to a member of your fan base.  I know there are lots of players who have to budget for even a stuff pack and who treasure every bit of new content they can get.  I'm sure it would mean a lot to whoever received something, even if it's just a couple of kits.
