This mostly because two things:
1. They change closing speed to slower pace.
2. In Competition, they're a lot of teams/playeers still alive and caustic throw gas when ring get smaller, many team die to it, start crying and start having caustic to counter it.
While in pubs and rank, we rarely see this scenario but we're the one get the HIT !!! ???
Note:
If this's so annoying, they should have different setting for competition set by the host.
I have a feeling I'm gonna murder more legends with Caustic. I see people not being scared of the gas anymore falling into my trap and then getting fried by the termites I sometimes throw in the mix... Mmmm.
I like how Respawn nerfs legends... instead of slight nerf, they completely ruin legend. Fun thing is that they planned to buff Caustic, but as soon as number of Cautic players increased in ranked (pro ranked) and many streamers cried on daily basis "how i hate Caustic players", they make legend useless. Pure stupidity.
