@hayhor very true. Path was soo fun in s1-s2.
I love controllers myself, I kind of collect them all the way back to Atari/commodore 64 (I have 5 that I currently play different games with, mostly fighting games). But FPS games are just not built for them, hence aimassist - and imo it wont ever really be balanced compared to MnK - it will either be too strong or too weak.
Everyone is free to choice their own playstyle and medium.
Problem with Apex is, the game for MnK changed a lot. In S0-2 Apex really felt like you could challenge anyone and push anything, the flow state was insane for MnK. But later when controllers kind of got buffed and more people used them. The game changed alot, you could no longer push every engagement - you always have to second guess and the flow state became non existent. Is that a controller player, or aimbot or soft aimbot - he sure hits everything even though I dodge dip and dive (movement). The fun thing about MnK battles is the movement during gunfight - its not just who has the best aim (or strategic advantage point). This movement is nullified against a controller player in close / medium distance. With MnK you have to predict someone's movement, and if they are good its quite hard to hit all shots (even for the best players in the world). The hardest part about MnK aiming is being consistent, being 100% consistent is really hard - controller players dont, aim assist does that for them.
I´m not saying that every engagement a controller wins, depends on too many variables. But the craziest lazers I´ve seen in this game is from controller players, hell one time I got one clipped wearing purple from a controller Horizion as she uplifted in the air (pre nerf). Sure the same argument could be made against MnK flick aiming - the reason why people feel cheated when they lose to a Controller (and remember it) is the sense that they feel cheated, it was not the player who actually defeated them but an A.I - exactly the same kind of triggers as losing to an aimbot.
If I was in charge I´d lower the aim assist down to 0,25 - and give controller players a fast button for armor swaping (death box). I´d give PC/Console players an option to opt out from cross play. I do not think they will ever give us that option, since they know that the majority of the player base would opt out from cross play. This would mean that those who opted in for cross play would have to sit and wait 30 minutes for a game to start.
And I can understand the remaining competitive MnK players not wanting tap strafing to be removed, it will further push those players away from the game. And people like Daltoosh gloating about this - truly show what an imbecill he truly is.
@BaldWraithIsHot hehe yeah I´ve noticed that -.-
- @NitromethaneAP Nice post. Don't make assumptions based on someone dropping a sick mag on you. The streamer I watch regularly, Holiwhirl, is a Horizon main (MnK) and I see her do exactly what you described on the daily, followed up with "I'm getting reported for that one lol."
- @NitromethaneAP I'm fine with giving an option to turn off crossplay too. But the stuff about aim assist being aimbot I'll disagree with. I miss plenty of shots. More than I hit. And it looks like the respawn devs do track performance of controllers vs MnK and feel it is balanced. They could turn the console ones down to .4 permanently to match PC and it wouldnt both me.
- @pandareno1999 I've had moments too where I actually beam someone. I either get lucky by the person running straight at me or the person strafes right with my strafe to help with recoil. I've had some hemlock two bursts where I say to myself that guy will probably report me. 🤣
- CCbathwater4 years agoSeasoned Ace@NitromethaneAP That's funny as some of the best lasers I've seen are from people like Hal, Shiv, diffq, Lulu, Noko, Alb, Aniemal, and so on, all on MnK. Anyway, I agree with hayhor, they can reduce it for all I care, I don't get any usable AA anyway. Compared to a game like Borderlands where it actually snaps when you press your ADS button, in Apex... nothing.
@hayhor I agree, it was hyperbolic of me, indeed they are worlds apart.
@CCbathwater true, bit of a bard wording for me, I should I said tracking - and yeah the craziest kills I´ve seen in this game is by Dizzy / Aceu - Mendo (all MnK players).
If I played Apex on my controllers I´d honestly want a button that I could flick my aim with (able to do 360´s faster and generally swap my aim fast). I´d also feel that there could be improvements made when there are multiple targets that you are aiming at. And having the fast button to armor swap deathboxes.
@NitromethaneAP I think most controller players accept that there are things we just can't do that mnk can, which is obviously why we get aim assist.
I just wonder how weak aim assist would have to be to satisfy mnk players because frankly 0 aim assist is just ridiculous, there would be literally no reason to use a controller then lol, due to the sheer disadvantage it would give you as a player.
To me 0.6 AA is much more noticeable than the 0.4 that pc controllers use, so I can totally understand pc players not being keen on console crossplay.
@MandatoryIDtag yeah I do agree aim assist is required. Controller players should still be able to play the game competitive.
I would have invited the best controller players and MnK to do internal testing, to figure out what threshold the aim assist should be set to. With the requirements that controller players should still be able to perform at the highest level.
I still think controller should have more possibilites, and that the solution should not just be to reduce aim assist. Just focusing on aim assist to me is short sighted, armor swaping needs to be easier on controller, flick aiming imo should also be a thing. These changes should not be mandatory, but optional so that players can decide them selfs (if they feel that muscle memory would change too much by enforcing them on everyone).
- @MandatoryIDtag Last night my friend told me he randomly shut his AA off and was still beaming people. He actually said he found it easier because his reticle didnt change speeds when moving through targets. We will see if he continues feeling that way. I'm talking a person that solos to diamond too, not a person that cant shoot anyway.
@hayhor I've had mine off for a while, the only time fights become tricky is point blank.
I've definitely seen a drop in my accuracy in close range engagements, but the fact I'm a heavily casual player these days doesn't help haha.
Kooch can confirm as he was bullying me about it yesterday. 😛
It's nice not having any interference from things like knocked players or opponents strafing across each others paths mid fight though.
