How to completely disable voice chat support (not just OFF in options)

How to disable voice hardware support COMPLETELY?

I have a headset which has two modes, one Headset and one Headphones mode.

During Headset mode the audio is only using like 22khz, most likely because of the bandwidth it needs for the microphone data to send back.. no clue really but well it is what it is.. audio is at phone call quality during Headset mode.

During Headphones mode the audio does use full 44khz and the sound quality is as expected.

When i launch BF2042 it automatically opens "VOICE CHAT" even tho it is disabled in the options.

I can tell that it does, because the Headphones switch into Headset mode right when BF2042 starts (which indicates that Windows is detecting a voice communication like it does for other voice communication software like Teams or Zoom)

The result of all this is bad sound quality for BF2042 because it pretends to be a voice communication even tho it is disabled.. so back to my question..

How to disable voice communication support completely so that BF2042 does not act as a voice communication software at all?

Is there a way to remove one of the .dll files which contains the stuff for the voice chat or any similar way so that the module for voice communication is not loaded into the game at all?

  • Heya, sadly that is just the default setting which can also be set in game and which I already mentioned to have it set to off.

The config correctly shows this as it already has "GstAudio.VoipOn 0"

  • Yup, it's still the same. Windows shows "Microphone access" even tho i have VOIP set to off... and this "Microphone access" is the reason the Headphones switch into Headset mode.

@Autositz in windows you can set apps who are allowed to use mic.
Set bf2042 as app thats NOT allowed to use mic.
  • Yeah, I know about the option under privacy - microphone where you can enable/disable per NATIVE win10 app.. but for legacy apps you can just globally enable/disable it, which I do neither want nor need.

BF2042 is not a native win10 app so does not show up on the upper list in these settings, hence why I am looking for a resolution to disable just that one programm having access. But it seems like there is no option and therefor I thought there might be a way to "remove" voice support inside BF2042.. kinda sort of "debug mode -novoip" which would block loading any voip integration within BF2042.

Guess I am out of luck. -.-
