Summarize your bug Mouse movement in in-game overlay menus, such as quick comms, attachment selection or spawn selection map, cause all PC audio to cut out momentarily. No audio issues while actually playing or in the pre-game menus. When I quit to the main menus, the audio returns to normal until I join another game. Also, while the issue is happening and I alt+tab to my desktop, I can move the mouse around and the audio doesn't cut out, but when I click back on the game the issue returns. so, again. it's only while in-game. Issue appears to be related to the PCIe soundcard driver, Sonic Studio. I'm using an Asus Xonar AE soundcard + mixer (Sonic Studio) routed through SPDIF to a JDS Labs AMP+/DAC+ stack to my headphones. It may seem strange, but the sound is incredible... when it's not cutting out that is...
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I've come across similar posts/comments of other external soundcards/DAC setups having a similar issue, and point to the ASIO as the culprit. To replicate my particular problem, install Sonic Studio, though it may require an ASUS soundcard to work. Once you get Sonic Studio working, join any game mode. My guess is you can get this to replicate with any soundcard and its intended driver, though.. Once the game begins, the issue may happen immediately while moving the cursor around on the spawn map. If the sound doesn't cut out, try spawning then using the quick comms to trigger it. If the sound still doesn't cut out, alt+tab to the desktop and back into the game or press esc to open the menu then go back to the game. My audio issues always returned 5 min (at the latest) after joining a game, sometimes without any of these methods triggering it.
What happens when the bug occurs? EX1: when the game begins and the spawn map appears, if I move the mouse, the audio cuts out for a second then returns. It continues to cut out until I stop moving the mouse or spawn into the game EX2: once spawned, when I pull up the quick-comms menu and move the mouse, the audio cuts out. If I pull up the menu and don't move the mouse, the audio is fine. it's only when the mouse moves that it cuts out for a second then returns. EX3: If I press esc and open the main menu while in a game, the audio cut outs will start when moving the mouse if they haven't started already
What should be happening instead? the audio stream should not be interrupted by mouse movement
Specs:
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z690-E Gaming WIFI
CPU: Intel i9-12900k
RAM: 32GB (2x16) Kingston Fury Renegade Silver DDR5 6400MHz
GPU: Asus TUF RTX 3080Ti 12GB
Soundcard: Asus Xonar AE
DAC/AMP: JDS Labs AMP+ & DAC+ stack
Sound Mixer: Sonic Studio
Headphones: Sennheiser HD 6XX
Mouse: Logitech G703 Lightspeed
Current configuration (that works with everything except BF2042):
Sonic Studio+Xonar AE >> JDS Labs Amp/DAC Stack >> Headphones
Current workaround (appears to fix all cutouts but the sound quality is nowhere near the same level of quality):
Realtek+Mobo Soundcard >> Headphones
Realtek+Xonar AE >> Headphones
The issue, as some other posts have narrowed down as well, appears to be with the external devices and their ASIO/drivers
There's been a few instances where I started a game and it seemed fixed for a few minutes, but something would eventually trigger it and the audio would start to cutout again.. The only time I've been able to get it working is by connecting to the Xonar AE or onboard soundcard directly and using the Realtek audio driver.
TBH, I can't 100% guarantee this workaround will stick, as I haven't tested it for very long and have switched back to my original setup. I love BF, but it's not worth playing with the lower sound quality. Hopefully enough folks have brought this to the dev's attention so it'll get resolved sooner rather than years from now, or never...
TL;DR
Mouse movement while in in-game overlay menus, such as quick comms, attachment selection or spawn selection map, cause all PC audio to cut out momentarily. No audio issues while actually playing or in the pre-game menus. Issue appears to be related to the PCIe soundcard driver (XonarAE+Sonic Studio) and external amp/DAC stack (JDS Labs Amp/DAC)
