Progress report...
Kanes wrath map adding which is easy. Getting them to work was not. The downloaded registry fix worked for tiberium wars fine but failed to create a duplicate instruction in the kanes wrath registry entry. I noticed the omission. Thought at first the ruling game being tw, perhaps just one entry is needed. However, I added the same entry under kw by copy and paste - and of course my kw maps were in the right folder under appdata etc. I did not need to reboot after the registry edit. It worked. Now, clicking custom maps shows a blank screen. However, skirmish shows them all. I have been enjoying looking at them all such that I have yet to actually play one. hard to choose which. and against whom etc. If you are reading this, you are a pro at having tried everything already and read all the ideas and stuff about registry changes etc. So you will know where to go to get the syntax you need. You've seen it a hundred times by now as I have. I thought the download fix would be easier than searching and comparing and typing. It did partly work and showed me the way to the rest. In the KW registry area you just do edit, create, 32bit dword, and enter without using quotes by the way the phrase they give in the forum usecustommaps or something like that. You should look it up to be sure.
Summarizing then, You can add maps to the download version from origin of Kanes wrath and also tiberium wars. the maps are different for each. be aware of that. unzip them. open the folder. if it has another one just like it , open that one. there is your actual map. copy just the one map name folder with files in it to the appdata spot as described in the forums. then google the download for registry entry fix. run it. agree to the install. Tiberium wars is now fixed. Make a manual entry for kanes wrath in the registry just like it pertaining to usecustommaps. provided you have done this and done it right, your maps will now show up in skirmish for both games and work .
my other mysteries are not solved entirely. Map editors either partly work or don't work. map manager does not work at all. seems these addons think the games are not installed. I checked the install dir entries in the registry and found that the end of the line for that entry for each game had an extra \ I removed it. that helped them to partly work a little more.
If I minimize the game and try to maximize it again or if I pause it and walk away too long it will self minimize.. and then once done, it so messes up the desktop that I have to reboot every time. it will not return from being minimized or time out minimized. I cannot rest a bit and do something else for awhile and come back.
the online play will not let me past the login phase. it gets caught in an endless loop where no answer to the questions will work at all.
so you know now that it is indeed possible to get the maps to work.
