Re: Getting rid of bunnyhopping

@VOLBANKER_PC this and the ridiculous sprint jump slide need to go, unless you're fighting on a football field or a dance floor, you're going to faceplant in the dirt if you try to slide cancel like a zoomer codblopswarzonefortniteapex player.

God forbid anyone develop skills outside of just aiming in a shooter!

Pretty lame discussion. There's aiming in a shooter, and then there's movement. You're essentially asking for movement/strafing to be non-existent. Let's all move around like walking turrets.

When you see people hitting everything mid-air, moving around like crazy, they're probably cheating. Then you have all the networking issues that aren't showing you exactly what's going on. They're jumping on your screen, but from the servers perspective, they are already back on the ground. Plus, people do cheat.

Whenever I watch Enders, I'm like "yeah, I could do probably all of that movement". The difference with him is that his aim is insane. Guy is an alien with that. Most people using a mouse don't have that sorta of aim.

The trend has been for a long time, slow movement, increase aim assist. Squish any sort of skill gap into just purely aiming. Pretty boring in my opinion.

@RaginSam Sliding on the ground - a skill? What are you even talking about. It’s just basic movement! So moving forward with your controller, is that a skill too? :D

I would not have anything against special movement if only it was realistic and not like something from an arcade game in the 1980’s.

Sliding is a skill, you need to know when and how to use it. There's little spots that you can slide down on the map to get a little more out of it as well. It gives movement depth. Are you trying to argue that strafing isn't a skill? And yes, we interact with the game through buttons, you can try to reduce everything to that, but kind of a straw man argument if you ask me.

Battlefield has always been pretty arcady. It's never been even close to a Milsim. I can't stand those types of games. If that's what you're looking for, in your luck, because that's been the big trend the past decade. Numerous shooters available right now that don't rely on movement!

I feel like people arguing for movement to be made more akin to a sim, are on console. Just another reason for crossplay to be abandoned in my opinion. Reduce movement, increase aim assist, anything to take away any sort of advantage that a mouse user might have.

You guys keep ignoring the fact there's some major dysnc/networking issues. Until that gets straightened out, you don't know what movement actually looks like in this game. I remember in the Beta, people looking like they were speed hacking. It's because of the networking.

There's been fatigue built into jumping for the longest time in BF. There's also a momentum system as well. So all the things you guys are "coming up with" in this thread, have been thought about, and then implemented. Movement is a skill. Learning how to force your opponent to miss their shots, IS a skill.

@RaginSamJumping, sliding etc. is a way of “putting further pressure” on the already poor hit registration in the game and get an unfair advantage that way. Not every time, but many times. That’s my suspicion / impression anyway.

What’s more, IMO you’re abusing the fact that the control settings in Battlefield can be a bit complex at first glance. Basically, as you know, it’s set up so one has an easier time targetting enemies that are “on the same height” as you. So people that are above you or below you are harder to target default. This fact, combined with jumping down from above towards an enemy, means you are not only likely to get an advantage because the netcode “can’t keep up”, but you’re also likely to get an advantage if your opponent has a harder time moving his crosshair up/down than left/right.

You can say “But that’s a skill issue then” - well, you can call it what you want. I call it super cheesy way of taking advantage of how the movement settings are by default + taking advantage of how some, perhaps even many, people do not adjust the settings for this because it can seem like a pretty daunting task.

@VOLBANKER_PCWhat do you mean exactly by abusing "the control settings"?

Sliding makes the game infinitely more interesting. It's important to have things that make general movement more fun to traverse the map. Instead of just turning a corner shorter, and "cutting the pie", you can slide out wide and try to catch someone off guard. It's a high risk, high reward thing. It adds depth to how you approach an encounter.

Like you said too, "puts further pressure on the server". I agree with that to an extent. So maybe that should addressed instead? We should have 60hz servers with better hit reg. Reduce the amount of lag comp for people playing with over 100ms of ping. There's also game design decisions, like the overuse of geometry (too complex ground features), and the vaulting that warps players to the object instead of just climbing. It all adds up.

Sliding is fun. Removing sliding, jumping, and any sort of movement tech is the most Boring solution I can think of.
