Installation Problem

Hello!

I have a problem, which has not appeared before. I have Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath on a DVD for some years now, and I have never had problems installing it. Now, however, when I try to install it, an error appears, named "Cyclic Redundancy Check". I have tried several options, listed in google, to fix the problem, but with no result. Please help!

Best Regards.

  • The "Cyclic Redundancy Check", or CRC, is a small value generated from a file's complete contents. They typically get stored with compressed files and installers to make sure that the final installed files are identical to the original source files packed into the installer. (zip files use these too)

This means that CRC errors like the one you got are generally a sign of actual physical damage to the data. Are there any scratches on your game disk?

Note that these errors occasionally occur in situations where an installer doesn't have administrator rights, so that could be a possible cause as well.

If you really don't manage to install the game from your DVD, you can always make an Origin account and install the Origin application (if you don't have those already) and add the game to your Origin library. To do that, open the "Origin" menu in the Origin client program and select "Add Game". Then, choose "Redeem Product Code" and enter your game serial. The product should be added to your Origin library, from which you can install it by downloading it through the application.

  • As for scratches, no, there are none on the disc, at least not major ones, just barely noticable. And about the Origin application, when I tried to add the game via the 20-letter/digit code (a1b2-c3d4-...) and the other one(a1b2c3d4e5....), written inside the case, but on both, this message appeared: "The product code you entered is not valid. Please confirm that the code has been entered correctly." I'm sure the spelling is correct, so I have no clues on what's causing that problem. Maybe the case codes are too old? I bought the game somewhere 2010-2012.

The a1b2-c3d4-... 20-digit code seems like the one you need, yes. Kane's Wrath requires C&C3, though... maybe it'll work after inserting your C&C3 code first?

  • Just tried with Tiberium Wars, same message for invalid code. Any other ideas?

  • And another thing: I noticed that the code example has 4 parts of code, like xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx. Mine has 5.

    Spoiler
Write to EA customer support for a live chat, they should be able to add your games into Origin. That's how it happened with mine.
