Please help! Display not working!

  1. I'd been playing Dragon Age Origins on my macbook pro retina, 13-inch, OS X 10.9.2 without any issues.
  2. I downloaded and installed the Ultimate Edition bundle (it was cheaper than purchasing the DLCs and Awakenings separately)
  3. I clicked "play" on the opening page, but got a blank screen and the the audio of the EA logo animation that precedes the menu containing the "Resume Game" option.
  4. I tried modifying the DragonAgeDefaults.ini Video Options, as recommended in some posts, without success.  Below is my current setting.
  5. I plugged my mac into a monitor and was able to play.
  6. However, the text that normally displays at the top of the screen when in conversation with other characters did not display.  E.g., Bodahan says "Something you need? I'm sure either my boy or I can help you out."  I can hear him saying it, but no text accopanied it.  My part of the conversation displays correctly at the bottom of the screen
  7. After I played around with the monitor mirror options, inexplicably I'm now able to get to the game page on my laptop screen.  The monitor is no longer plugged in.  However, the conversation text still doesn't appear at the top of the screen.
  8. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling.  I've tried reinstalling my original version instead of the one that's part of the Ultimate Edition bundle.
  9. Can someone please help?!   :-(

Also, I installed the patch (prompted after install)
