- This is a screenshot of the black grass and general quality. This is on everything Ultra and looks nothing like even the Pre-Alpha screenshots that have been published for this game: http://imgur.com/nsEffiV

Yup, looks just like mine, mix of High and Ultra settings with HBAO on: http://i.imgur.com/6WnNm3L.jpg
So.. I switched from 1920*1080 at 144 Hz to same resolution on 60 Hz. Result? http://imgur.com/ma4xWze You can see it is still Full HD by the crisp sharp character portraits but everything else has gone to **bleep**. This was the only change I did, these are still the Ultra settings. I guess this game needs a lot of work in regards to fixing these glitches. :-( Im sad.

Good lord. Since we seem to be the only two people on the internet having this problem right now (I have searched everywhere!), we should compare.
We both have:
-Win 8.1 x64
-Nvidia GTX series cards
-Latest graphics drivers
Which lots of other people have, yet apparently no one else is having this problem, or at least they're not posting about it.
I'm running DA:I off my HDD, but Origin is installed to my SSD, along with my OS. Is your game installed on the same drive as Origin and your OS? I doubt it's the cause of the problem, but I've had issues running games on a drive that's seperate from my OS before, so who knows?
At this point I think I'm just going to re-install the game and see if that magically fixes the problem, since I'm all out of ideas. ☹️
Game is installed on a seperate drive.
Far Cry 4 is looking absolutely stunning so I doubt it´s the driver itself.
Nothing more to compare here, really. :-(
Im now disabling Cloud Storage and delete my delete/backup my saves and config and let the game create that again without restoring it out of the cloud. let´s see if that changes anything.

Well I tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck...still black grass!
Completely new save didnt help either. Made some new screenshot though: http://imgur.com/a/FMkBB These squares are literally everywhere.
Here is my DxDiag. Maybe a developer can make sense why these glitches are happening and preventing DA:I from being amazing.

I tried a new save as well and found more black grass during the prologue that I didn't notice my first time through, so I guess it's not specific to the Hinterlands area: http://imgur.com/pCs5UbF,Ltaeec5#0
Good idea on the DxDiag, I'll post mine as well: http://pastebin.com/RYwQ3Vk3
Hopefully we get a solution soon!
It still feels like it´s caused by a messed up installation or something like that. As written before, the hardware/driver works flawless with Far Cry 4 and other beauties like a heavily modded Skyrim with HD textures/dense vegetation and all. Since it´s the Frostbite engine: Even Battlefield Hardline didnt have any of these glitches.
Or the game is just not liking some part of my hardware setup. I´ve tried disconnecting every device I wont need to play but that didnt change anything.
Although you already did it, I´ll just keep grasping at straws and reinstall the game through Origin.
Reinstalling changed nothing, not that I expected much.
I´ve tried older drivers like 344.65 and 340.52, all with the same problems.
Well, I have no further clues where to search for the problem. EA hasn't answered either..
When I tried to create a specific profile for this game the Nvidia control panel told me, that Ambient Occlusion is not support for this game:
Might that have something to do with the black grass?
Try this out guys :
Applicable to NVIDIA USERS ONLY
NVIDIA FIXYou realize that I am the one that answered that post of yours and already said that the newest driver is NOT fixing this?

I made another thread last night since we weren't having any luck with this one and I heard back from an EA fellow, he hasn't looked at the dxdiag yet but he's thinking missing art assets or corrupt shaders. I'm hoping he'll respond soon! Here's the thread: http://answers.ea.com/t5/Dragon-Age-Inquisition/Black-Grass-dxdiag/m-p/3997759#M2744
- Anonymous11 years ago
That's a good point, I just tried the same and mine also says that Ambient Occlusion is not supported...suspicious...
- Anonymous11 years ago
Hanboh, out of curiosity, how did you install your copy of the game? Did you download it through Origin or install through DVD-ROM?
- Anonymous11 years ago
I just spent 2 hours talking to EA tech support and tried what they suggested and no luck...this is ridiculous.
If anyone else is having this or a similar problem, please speak up and post here or make a new thread so we can hopefully get some attention from someone with the know-how to fix this, or at least find the source of the problem.

P10: I installed it through Origin, bought it digitally. Installed it two times by now. Also tried the repair option.
However, I found a solution to my problems but it sounds stupid. I am a software developer so I know how important it is not to change multiple things at the same time to see if it brings better results.
I´ve spent hours, changing setting by setting, each time restarting the whole game to see if it has any effect. No success, always the black grass and rest of the glitches. I then uninstalled all drivers for peripharals I dont need, as someone suggested that it helped disconnecting them.
Again, one by one, each time restarting the game.
When I uninstalled the driver for the XBox controller the glitches were no more. Again, it sounds stupid but the game now looks beautiful. Just to test this I installed them again and boom, glitches again, uninstalled: glorious.
Strange how other people are able to play the game with controllers.
- Anonymous11 years ago
Hmm...I thought maybe the install method could be a factor, but I guess not. I'm completely out of ideas, I've tried a clean boot, Safe Mode, different compatibility modes, and system restore, I even reinstalled my graphics card, and none of those made a difference.
Have a look at the edit of my last post. Maybe it helps you.
- Anonymous11 years ago
I just tried uninstalling my controller and the grass is still black...that's really odd though, at least your problem is fixed. 🙂
- Anonymous11 years ago
So i had this problem also... tried all the wild guesses in the few forum possts that exist, which really makes me wonder that so few have the problem.
I had reinstalled Win 8.1 just a couple of days ago, because i installed a new GFX (Geforce 970) without installing the driver first, and it **bleep** up Win 8.1... never though that would happen.
Okay, fresh Win 8.1 with just a few software installation. One by accident because i attached one USB Cable to much:
DisplayLink Core Software
While i think this one was the culprit for, because it is really unstable even if no adapter is attached i uninstalled 2 more on the same reboot:
VMWare vSphere Manager
Virtual Clone Drive
I really don´t think those two were responsible, but both tap into Hardware somehow.
Nevertheless, grass is green, DA looks strange now, having played way too long with dark black grass and screwed ground textures.
But the point is - check your software and features for software you don´t really need (atm) and that might tamper with your hardware - reboot, try, hope to be green. 🙂
I had the DisplayLink drivers installed (and later uninstalled) as well, but they changed nothing for me.
Still strange how picky DAI is about some installed programs and how they affect the graphics.
