Hi @MultiChr,

I'm sorry to hear that, that's not something that's supposed to happen and let's have a look to see what's causing this. 

There are a few things that we can try, but I'd like to know first if this also happens on Origin?

I have some troubleshooting steps for you to try as well:

  • Clear the cache via Help > App Recovery > Clear Cache. 
  • Make an exception in your firewall/anti'virus for the EA app.
  • Temporarily turn off your VPN and Proxies.

    sorry for the late reply.

    I tried clearing the cache aswell as turning off all proxies/firewalls. I even tried connecting via different networks. The problem does persist on different devices aswell.

    Thank you for letting me know, so it happens on different networks and on different devices, that's new. 

    Could you still log into the Origin app and check if your friends list loads?

  • @EA_Jason Yes, no problem logging into Origin App and all friends are there. This problem does only happen in the new EA App.

    If it does matter, I tried on my notebook and on my home network aswell as on mobile network.

    are there any news on this?

    I've read this problem does occur for some others users aswell. The only solution I have found is creating a new account. But I don't want to start a new account and have new save games etc.. Why can't you just fix this problem? I am pretty much unable to play games from Game Pass now as I have no friend list.

    Hey @MultiChr,

    Sorry for getting back to you this late, I must have missed your message. 

    As for what's next, your best bet is to reach out to our support team first and ask them if they can log into your account to see if the same thing happens to them, 

    Another thing that I would like to know is if you have imported any friends through Xbox or another platform and how many friends you have on that platform.

    I haven't imported any friends from other platforms as far as I know. I just tried deleting all friends and start all over again and that doesn't work neither. I had 20-30 friends before I deleted them.

    @MultiChr So that would mean it isn't related to the amount of friends on the account.

    Please let me know if the support team ran into the same issue on your account.
  • I tried contacting the support via ticket.

    They told me to clear the cache and closed the ticket. I mentioned that I got everyhting done already. I guess I have no chance to ever play Game Pass games from EA with friends.

    If you request that they log into your account to have look, then I am certain that they wouldn't object to it. 

    It would really help to see what's going on, would you be so kind to reach out again?

    I tried again and they replied in very bad German and told me they cannot login into my account and EA Desktop is just a beta. Furthermore they told me there is no known problem about the friend list in the EA Desktop app. Yeah, nice...

    Sorry, this feels like a absolute clown show. Why am I even reporting an issue and try to help improving the software if the support is just ignoring my request and basically telling me to f*** off and stop annoying the support. Nice experience.

    EDIT: Well, just started the EA app another time to check if there's an update just to see this:

    How am I supposed to take this software seriously if there are bugs like this? I mean c'mon. I wouldn't even complain if this software wouldn't be mandatory to install/play games included in the Game Pass.

  • The problem does still persist.

    It's about 3 month since last reply of me. I opened this thread in November thats like half a year. How can you make a non functional software mandatory for users to play games they are paying for? Seriously, tell me how anyone can think this is a good idea?

    And how can you ignore a obvious major bug which prevents players aka paying customers to use the software as it's meant to be? Not answering anymore, no help whatsoever.

    I have the same problem by the way, it's been a month of "something went wrong and we couldn't locate your friend list" in the sidebar panel. If I click under "My Profile" my friends are there but I can't interact with them from there.

    I've been having the exact same issues since I switched over to the EA app from Origin. I had originally hesitated to make the switch because hours weren't logged. Now it appears that the hours are logged, however each and every day I get the message stating "Something went wrong and we couldn't locate your friends list. Try again in a bit."

    In Origin, all of my friends are there. When I play Battlefield 2042, I can see my friends list (people who I have added who play Battlefield 2042) and when I log into EA's website, the friends are present there as well. This definitely needs to be fixed. If you are going to develop a replacement for Origin, you should ensure it functions fully before starting to push it onto people. Your own deadline is coming up to have a functioning product and replacement for Origin.

  • I lost any hope in EA fixing this within the next time. I mean this bug is known for a year now. Any company which isnt either fully incompetent or just greedy would have fixed this already. But hey we're talking about EA which are telling me in tickets I should create a forum thread about it. They just * don't care.

  • I have this issue as well.  It definitely is something with our accounts on their end.  I have tried logging into my account on the EP App on two PC on different networks and still no friends list and that same error message.

    Ridiculous that support disappeared for nearly two months on this and still no resolution.

    Mine was fixed this morning.  EA did something on their end I didn't change a thing.  Hopefully you are all ok now.

    I have the same issue.  Many friends show up but several do not.

    Also how do you message a friend if they are not online?

  • Hello Hello Are you sure you didn't change any "EA settings" or even a windows update before the problem was resolved? I have friends that I know on facebook or by personal email who still don't see me when I am logged on. We look for each other on EA while we are on facebook chatting and trying to get it working. My whole friends list disappeared when I installed the Mandatory EA App upgrade and even when I search their full player name the stupid app doesn't show them. I never had any trouble with the old Origin Game Launch page other than some buggy updates that they fixed up in a few weeks usually. It all makes me wonder what the hell have I spent so much money for all these years?

  • A few days ago, I added a player as a friend. We were supposed to play together, but just now we suddenly couldn't play games together. After I restarted my computer, I couldn't find him in the friend list, nor could I find him in the game. Both of us have set the permission to add friends to the public.
  • @EA_Jason Got a new computer and went to try out BF2042 and keep getting this error. I have EA Play and Xbox Ultimate Game Pass and they are linked. However, I bought BF2042 and the key code was for Origin.

    I have tried using both my EA Play account (Gmail) and Xbox account. I have repaired game files, I have cleared cache, and uninstalled/reinstalled and still having this issue.

    I contacted EA Support which was a joke. The guy basically gave me links to click on and follow the instructions. That did nothing. He basically said he would send the information to his team and once they get enough complaints they will get a fix. So, basically, I need to wait for an official patch before this is fixed (if it even fixes it!).

    Anything else I can do or try? Or do I have a broken game? FYI, I never had this issue on my older rig (It's been 1 weeks since I've upgraded).
