InstallShield Installation wizard issue

Okay so TS3 was downloaded through Origin, clicking the "install" button seems to do nothing, then after a while it attempts to launch an Installshield wizard but it appears to freeze, in that I will see an installshield wizard window popup but the actual content of the install window is blank (i.e I see a window, titled with "install shield wizard" but white blank space inside the window. 

I have tried trying to install TS3 by browsing through the windows folders instead of using Origin, however this installs really quickly and only seems to install half the files, after googling I have found this is a known issue.

I then downloaded and installed a patch, began with TS patched to 1.55 (patch .exe was about 1.3GB), now If i try to launch the game i get into the start menu but get a popup error saying "could not start game, please see the error log for more information" or something along those lines, clicking "OK" or the "X" to close the message closes the sims 3.

So now I'm left with a broken game which does not work...
