Re: Sims 3 won't launch with Windows 10

@robotdog385 So far so good. In Windows go to control panel - programs and features - turn windows features on or off. Check to see if .net framework 3.5 is enabled. If not enabled - turn on - ok - reboot computer - try game.

Thank you @roberta591, this helped sims 3 to finally launch. Though, expansion packs that I have downloaded and are visible in my launcher are not showing up in my game. For example, I am missing saves saying that they aren't available because the expansions are no longer on the system. Whats does this mean?

@robotdog385 make sure the packs are in the game launcher in the content manger tab and that they are enabled.

I have been having the same issue,  It opens the launcher just fine, but when I actually launch the game I get a black screen and the windows loading cursor until it eventually (about a minute) says "The Sims 3 is not responding".  I upgraded to a larger OS drive and when I reinstalled the Sim 3 it didn't work.

    Specs:

OS: Windows 10 Home x64 (up to date)

    CPU: Intel i7 6700

GPU: Nvidia GTX 970 (drivers up to date)

    RAM: 32 GB

    Origin v10.4.22.609286

I tried going through the fix you posted but my .net framework 3.5 was already enabled.  Do you have any other advice?

  • I don't even get to a black screen. With my recent update it said I was missing mscvr100.dll whenever I hit the play button. I found a fix for that but now it is telling me the application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). I've tried restarting my computer and the fix suggested above and nothing's working

@cmarkgraf674  First thing to try is to uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package using the control panel and download and install the package from Microsoft.

  • @roberta591

I tried this several times and it did not do anything ☚ī¸ any other suggestions you could think of? Much appreciated!

Hello, I am having kind of the same issue with robotdog345. When I download and install the sims 3 and the packs, and that was no issue. but when I was trying to play it on origin. They said I need to update the NET Framework 3.5 (includes NET 2.0 and 3.0), but it won't install. It keep saying that Windows couldn't find required files to complete the requested changes. Erroe code 0x800F081F. Please help! I don't know what to do.

@alexisbryant79  I am assuming you have a pc. Did you download .net framework from Microsoft? Windows 10 includes .net framework and the download version does not work for Windows 10. You need to open control panel - programs and features - turn windows features on or off - enable .net framework 3.5

@unicorn_vdb26  What file is missing? Did you enable .(not download - the download from MS won't work) net framework 3.5?

I tried that, but they said I need to download some require files. Like windows updates. But I have too many updates, to download them. Is their any other way to download them one by one?

    Hi,

I am having similar issues. I have looked at this and it's already enabled.
    Backstory:
    - Used Sims 3 via Origin on an old PC laptop, worked perfectly aside from my laptop being slow due to age
    - Got a new (A1 refurbished) PC laptop and downloaded Origin in December last year.
    - Sims 3 has not worked on the new laptop at all
    - The launcher goes through it's stages but once at the 'Choose neighbourhood' screen at some point here or in the few seconds after choosing a neighbourhood I receive the message that Sims 3 has stopped working and to close the program whilst Windows looks for a solution. Only option is to close the program.
    - OS is Windows 10
    - Hopefully I have correctly attached dxdiag.

I'm stuck, any help would be amazing!

    UPDATE
Very oddly saw a post about turning wifi off and on. I've turned the wifi off on my laptop and I can play! Of course, all my saved data can't download and it's basically back at the beginning so help would still be appreciated!

@supern0vaea in programs and features in the upper left is yurn woindows feature on and off. You need to enable .net framework Just enable both 3.5 and 4,8.

  • @roberta591Hello, I am having an issue too.  I did all of these things and uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and nothing seems to work.  I just got a new computer, and it looks like nothing in Island Paradise is working correctly.  When a lot has a stilted foundation, it appears as a deck.  Then if I add a stilted foundation, the stilts look like planks.  The ground textures are not coming through at all.  It looks like these issues are isolated to the the Island Paradise expansion, because the other neighborhoods are working fine.  Any suggestions?

@alexcassano   Sorry for the late reply but I have been very busy. First please post your dxdiag for your new computer. Have you tried to reinstall Island Paradise? Does the game run with IP disabled in the game launcher? Maybe try to uninstall IP in the comtoer;s control panel and reinstall from TS3 store. IP may have been corrupted during installation. After you uninstall IP, run a registry cleaner like ccleaner (there is a free copy) THEN reinstall the pack.

  • I have tried clearing the cache, uninstalling and reinstalling the whole game, and updating graphics drivers.  So far nothing has worked.

  • @Nathanos74 I am also having this issue, game was working just fine two days ago, they rolled out another patch for the Sims 4 and since then my sims 3 is broken again. Launcher opens fine, but the game opens a black screen them promptly closes. Task manager shows it as not responding. These games have been nothing but a headache lately. Did you ever find a fix?

@alexcassano My first work around that fixed my game was going to control panel>system and security>system>advance system settings and under "Performance" hit settings, go under Data Execution Prevention and "Turn on DEP" click add and add Sims 3, Sims 3 Starter Application, Sims 3Launcher Starter Application and TSLHelper, click apply and okay. Close everything, right click your Sims 3 shortcut> Properties "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (SP3)" and under setting check "Run this program as an administrator" click apply and okay. restart you PC and it worked for me!
