Can't see my mods folder

hello,

I've been a long-time player of the sims starting with sims 1 when it came out, followed by sims 2 and further expansion packs, and then sims 3!! I love playing the sims 3 and when I found out about mods to download, I was very excited and happily joined the masses.  All was great until about 3 months ago when for some reason my game file (the one i worked on for the last year and a few months of my real life) just disappeared. and then my game started to crash. I solved the saving issue, solved the game crashing (I hope) but my mods folder disappeared and won't reappear. I tried everything possible under the sun to figure out the problem and nothing is working. Could it be that because EA updated their thingy (for lack of better word) the mods don't work? and if so, how can I fix that so they can work?

Thanks for any and all help,

someone who really loves playing the sims 3

  • marciastalks  I apologize for the late reply.  Please make sure your mods are in the folder Sims 3 is now reading, as in, it may have changed when you fixed the Error 16.  If you're not sure, create a new save with a distinct name, then search for it.  Whatever folder it's in is the one that also needs your Mods folder.

Mods still work fine in Sims 3 overall.

I did make a new mods folder. But the game is still not reading what I downloaded. Is there any possible chance to get a new mods folder from here somewhere?

  • marciastalks  You can use the Mods Framework hosted here:

    https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Installing_Sims_3_Package_Files/Setup_and_Files

If your browser blocks it, use a different one.  It's a trusted site and an even more trusted download.

But again, please let me know whether the Mods folder is in the same Sims 3 folder that contains the new save you created.  Or create a new save and see whether it shows up in the same folder as the Mods folder.  It's easy to add mods to the wrong folder.

  • how can I use a different one if my browser blocks it? also, when i eventually can download it, the mods is missing the overrides folder

  • So it finally works!!! I can play the sims like I like!!

  • marciastalks  I'm glad to hear it's working for you.  For the record, you don't need an Overrides folder unless you download a mod with instructions to place it in Overrides.  Most mods don't need to be there; the only time it's required is when you need to control the load order of mods and cc, for example when there's a cc object with a mod that scripts its functions.  Some players also use Overrides to allow one mod to override another's settings, but that's because of a mod conflict, not that either mod needs to be in Overrides by itself.
