Re: Sims 3 patch, Jan 13, 2025: technical issues thread

@acartergirl3 Only core mods is affected. (Common mods like nraas error trap). You have to wait for an update from the mods team. Other mods shouldn't need update because no gameplay aspect is changed.

  • Thanks. Still a bummer though, who knows when that will be, tho? Not even sure Nraas is still updating or if it will take several weeks or something.

    @acartergirl3  ErrorTrap is already updated:

    https://www.nraas.net/community/post105630#p105630

No other NRaas mods need an update.  The only other core mod hosted there is UntranslatedKey, which is for developers and never had a 1.69 version anyway.

@jmhtogether31  You don't need any Alder Lake fix anymore, patch or otherwise, at least for an EA App install.  That was the point of the patch, to fix this specific problem without the player needing to take any further steps.  You also don't need to remove your script mods if you have any, although core mods like ErrorTrap do need an update.  (ET has been updated; see above.)

@Lebe17  This patch isn't available in macOS because the issue the patch fixes doesn't affect Macs.  The 64-bit Mac version of Sims 3 is a whole other subject.  If you'd like help with your game, please post in the Mac tech forum:

Hi! So, I've updated NRAAS Error trap and don't have any other CORE mods besides the NRAAS one. I've turned off my computer since updating. I have tried to launch the launcher twice and I keep getting a dialogue box, the one that says "it looks like you have installed an unofficial game modification" (image attached). I keep clicking 'x' or clicking 'close' and it closes out but then when I run the launcher again and press play on the launcher, it crashes and I get this box. I am really starting to think I can't play the Sims 3 anymore because of some stupid update that most of us didn't even need! Does anyone here know the issue or has anyone contacted EA about this with any luck?

@acartergirl3  Please pull ErrorTrap and try again.  If you still get the message, remove all non-NRaas mods.  The error should go away, but if not, redownload your other NRaas mods and replace your existing copies.  Then you can start introducing your other mods to see which one is triggering the error.

ET has a specific copy for version 1.69, so make sure you get that, not the disc or Steam version.  The download link is the arrow to the right of Version 100.

@adrianna456  I'm so glad to hear that.  Do you know which step helped, or did you try them all at once?  The important thing is that one of these worked, but now I'm curious exactly what the problem is.

I've figured it out. Apparently CMAR's XCAS (body sliders) is a coremod. I removed it and was able to start my game. Unfortunately, that mod hasn't been updated since 2016 and it doesn't look likely that it will be anytime soon - so I guess I will have to play without. Very disappointing as I relied on those body sliders a lot for customization. I wish I have never updated with this patch!

For those of you also having issues with the EA app after updating Error Trap, the following are also core mods that can throw the error message and prevent you from starting the game. If you have any of these they will have to be updated or removed completely :'(

    NRaas ErrorTrap
NRaas UntranslatedKey (but there never was a 1.69 variant of this one, only 1.67)
    CmarNYC's XCAS
    Consort's 2X Weight/Fitness
    Lizcandor's Asymmetrical Relationships
Simler90's Core Mod (not compatible with NRaas though)
    AwesomeMod

@acartergirl3  Right, that's why I asked you to remove all non-NRaas mods, in case you had another core mod you didn't know about.  And CMar passed away in late 2023, so unless someone else takes over her work, it's unlikely that her mods will ever be updated.

@puzzlezaddict So I did try to launch the game after every step. It would not work until the last step, reinstalling and getting rid of duplicate Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable programs. I'm not sure if that means it was just that, or if everything else needed to be done lol.

@adrianna456  Thanks, and that might be the entirety of the problem, as these runtimes all have to work together.  An older version of one not built to work with the newer versions of the others could easily stop the game from loading.  The next time someone shows up with the same issue on Windows 7, I'll ask them to do that first.
