Re: Awful rain

Hey folks,

thanks for the further explanation and feedback! I've passed this along to the team.

I've also moved a couple of related comments into this thread.

Thank you! Its such a great game, i love it, but weather special effects are just bad.

If there is a chance i have two topics related to this and i dont want to create another topic so i will ask you here:

1: There is some bug with windshield raindrops with snow weather. When the race is starting and camera cuts at front of the car I can clearly see that the car is covered in raindrops, windshield is covered in raindrops and wipers are "taking" them off the windshield (sorry, english isnt my native language 😉) but when the races starts windshield is clear, no raindrops and theres no need to use wipers in heavy snow which i think is some kind of bug. So if u can ask the team if they can fix it so racing in snow conditions with snow flakes melting on your windshield will cover it with raindrops, it will be much more realistic and immersive for driving in snow conditions.

    2. Another thing is the snow itself 🙂 same as rain, snow flakes dont look too good, like circles cut from paper, snow flakes dont look like this irl, in new WRC they look like from some kids animation. And when you choose heavy snow conditions they fall from the sky way to slow, like in slo-mo.

This may be not big gamebraking things, but are immersion killing so if you can pass this to the team i think all community will be greatfull 🙂 Thank you!

These are the examples of real life footage of driving in heavy rain and snow.

In DR2.0 rain was very close to what is seen in the real life video. But in EA Sports WRS it is a huge step back.

Snow, looks like no race game actually simulate it properly. Neither look, nor FFB feeling. So this is a good point for improvement.

Note, that snow effect should look different from rain. They doesn't look the same in real life.

I agree with visuals part but not with FFB feeling on the snow. I think its pretty good, you can feel the wheel is light. And it cant be 1:1 compared to driving on the snow with normal car because WRC cars have studded tires so their grip is on another level.

I talk only about the visual part (rain/snow).

The driving on snow is fine.

@wRobelele Regarding to ffb my idea was not about the lack of grip, but more about the lack of drag that you should feel driving in snow tread. Especially on high degraded stages. Remember this feeling IRL (lots of snow here in Canada), but never saw any racing game even tries to simulate it. But they should, because this is the main feeling you have driving in heavy snow.

@T16R0N Especially the pull to one side when one front wheel goes through deeper snow.

Maybe it’s more off a safety thing so those who run high FFB on their wheels don’t get taken by surprise and break their wrists

@ScarDuck14 Drove a little more in Sweden. Finally found the drag. But to get it you should really go off stage.
My point that in heavy snow the road itself should become covered with snow and get similar condition of hard deep snow.

It's been a year and the rain is still terrible, both the jam-like effect on the windscreen from cockpit view, and especially the falling raindrops when using headlights, at night or in the daytime and in any view.

Doesn't even look like rain. Doesn't even look like sleet, it's far worse than that.

Plus falling snowflakes are now black when not being directly illuminated, and the effect of snowfall on the windscreen is still broken/missing after a full year, making wipers unnecessary during snow.

Tear it all out and start over, and keep it out until it's done right. The weather effects and headlights are still worse than the nine year old Dirt Rally and only break immersion in this game with how poorly implemented they are. Please put an end to it. The broken cockpit reflections need to go already, too.

Here's an even more egregious rain example where it's not as dark out: https://i.imgur.com/PbMG9ZB.mp4

Without headlights, the visibility of the rainfall on the left side of the screen here is probably closer to what it should look like in front of the car with the headlights lighting them up, but the "drops" are still way too thick and opaque overall, and of course the lights make it look absolutely ridiculous, even in daytime conditions.

    It's complete and utter nonsense.
