I suffered through Thalassophobia for months, but my Sim was cured before Paranormal stuff came out. I've sent three Sims with Thalassophobia swimming in the ocean, which seems to cure them.
There are two versions of Thalassophobia, one from wading and one from swimming. It appears that sometimes the wading buff isn't removed properly, but swimming seems to get rid of it.
