I know that the Flag has existed for longer than Nazi flag. The reason the latter is frequently mentioned in such a case is to give a clear example which can be easily understood by those who don't know the Rising Sun Flag. The historical background is different and the former is Japanese not German, but still it's true that those two were used around the same period of the history.
