Re: Need for Speed: Payback Stuttering Issues.

i got a 1080 anf an i7 7700k 8 gig of ram and online is not playable

  • starletboy6969 the game needs more than 8gb of ram, at least on max settings, for me the game alone takes about 8-10gb of ram + ~2gb for OS leaves me at arround 10-12Gb of ram usage.

for general it depends on where the lag/stuttering is coming from, in everthing ultra i have 4gb+vram usage which can leave some with a gtx970 (3.5gb) with some additional micro stutter, besides that the game seems to be very picky on the internet in online mode, even slightly bad internet give you lags/stutter.
the game is saved with "denuvo 4.7" which also uses some VM technique to save the game thus increasing both CPU and RAM usage i would say CPU is clear RAM is only a guess while task manager says 4gb process usage but in overall nfs adds up 8gb+ RAM usage.

I also have some micro stuttering here and there which sucks too besides that it doesnt seem that much except in city where there is significantly more stuttering.

guys any news about stuttering problem ????

  • Hey guys...

After the big patch in December the stuttering was gone for me but after the new big update last month the stuttering got back and even worse...

I have had contact a couple of times with EA and they can't seem to find a solution for this but.... I found one after long searching and trying a lot of different things...

Most of the people i see online are on a machine using multiple cores... I have a pretty mean machine myself and i think the problem is limited to these kind of machines:

    Core i7 7700K

    Asus Maximus Formula IX

    32 GB 2666 HyperX memory

Asus GTX 1080 Ti OC 11 GB

    960 Pro NVME 512

    4K screen

I GOT IT TO WORK NOW!!

If you have a machine with more then 4 cores you will get the stuttering in some configurations and you can fix it:

    1. I downloaded a simple program called 'Process Lasso'

    2. Installed it and started Need For Speed Payback.

    3. Lookup NeedforSpeedpayback.exe in the processes

    4. Rightclick the process and click the second line: CPU affinity

    5. Now select Always...

    6. Click CPU affinity

    7. deselct a couple of cores but leave 5 cores checked...

    8. Go back to the game

    9. Enjoy stutter-free (but occasionally mini freezes as a little downside)

Why this program you ask? Because this sets this affinity with the cores every time you start the game instead of doing it manually via Task Manager in W10.

It's not a real solution of course but now it's playable without getting tears in your eyes and a headace after playing for about 10 minutes...

I hope this also works for you all...

If you first want to test it you can of course set the affinity in the task manager first to check if it solves the problem for you. With 2 cores it's unplayable, 3 cores is still quite bad, 4 cores it's finally playable but 5 cores is the limit of the game (so it seems).

If any of the EA crew are reading with me... Please fix this issue... None of my other games have this problemwhile playing every game @ 4K ultra.

    Good luck to you all!

    Greets,

    Mark

but if im going to install process lasso i need to unistall taks manager o something instead of  ?? but thabks anyway fo soluction im gonna try after reinstalling the game

  • @saloe3

No problem... I'm not native English too I'm from The Netherlands. We understand each other that's what's important.

I'm using the Lasso application for days now to have just 5 cores used in Need for Speed Payback and for me it's playable all the way now.

Did you check while gaming with Alt-Tab to get back into Windows and look if your program still just uses 4 or 5 cores? For me it's working like a charm now and hope I can help others to have fun with this game again too because even if it's not the best optimized game, it's still so much fun to play.

I sure hope that it works with Lasso for you but make sure you follow the steps as I gave earlier to have the lasso application just use 5 cores when Need for Speed starts up by clicking the 'Always'  under CPU affinity.

    Good luck!

so i still test the game with Lasso and after following your instruction , (where is cpu affinity in lasso a can see  CPU 0 until 7 ) i deselect 6 and 7 and i found the game a little bit better actually much better with ULTRA SETTING just some stuttering not too much but the thing is after 30 minutes of smoothly game the **** problem back again frequently , and now i still do the operation a little bit different whit settin on HIGH and deselect just 1 of core just the number 7 ... and yes i think now the game run very smoothly .. i just hope the problem no back again .. i want to ask you in lasso the cores to deselect i need to star to the number 0 o i need deselect starting to number 7 ?? .. anyway yes  this   program lasso really help the gam to run smoothly //.... but EAAAA C MOOON !!!!! :/ THANKS MARKVVELSEN !

  • @saloe3 you're very much welcome!

I deselected the first 3 cores and left the 3-7 checked so for me. it works like a charm now and very happy to hear it works for you too.

Hopefully there are other players that are helped with this solution.

I've also made a bug report about this to EA and hopefully they will soon update the game with a fix for this issue.

Glad i could help. Enjoy the game (again) !

hi @Markvvelsen after still doing different test i arrived at the conclusion for me no WAY ☹️ still unplayable, the problem unfortunatly back after minutes of playing ,with all test doing,,,  mybe lasso help (A LITLE BIT) with deselect cores but the problem for me with nvidia gtx 1050ti 4 gb kill a lot of FPS and stok im playing around 35 40 sometimes 50 mybe ... and playng with all cores actived im playng more fresh ..so the problem is present however  and still *** stuttering... i mjust letting lose everything and im stop playng ... 🙂

DO YOU THING IS MY GRAPHIC CARD ???? GTX 1050TI 4GB NO OC ...

in the raccomented requirements they say GTX 1060 6gb o equivalent with 4 gb of memory but cmon in not like this !!! the graphic of the game is notthing special in the end the game still  runnign shith ... cmon ☹️

    wath do you thing ??

  • @saloe3

I think that the GTX 1050Ti is no match for this game if you want to play on Ultra no... This game is badly optimized and i think it will not run great with a 1050... I also have a second machine with a GTX 970 and on 1080p it runs smooth on Ultra.

Maybe tweak the settings a little in NFS untill there is a new update / fix ? Instead of Ultra you can try high quality maybe on 1080p?

On my machine it works like a charm now on 4K Ultra with 5 cores selected.

Hope the developers of EA will give us a new update / fix soon so we can all enjoy this game like it should.

Have a nice evening and happy gaming!!

@Markvvelsen sure the gtx 1050ti is not the most for the game to run on ultra  this is true.. but the game no run good in all the setting i tried on low , medium  , high whit occulsion ambient on sso (o something like that ) .NO WAY .. ACTUALLY ON START AFTER CHANCE SETTING YES IS GOOD .. BUT IS QUESTION OF MINUTES TO BAK THE STUTTERING

with the setting just fps chance ... but what makes the game unplayable is thi stuttering .. i give you example

if i start the game for the firt time on day with my laptop fresh ... can i play on ultra regolar with sometimes (and often in city )  drop of fps ... THIS IS NORMAL IS MT GPU !!

AFTER 10 MINUTES  UNPLAYABLE FOR STUTTERING !!! so i chanche the setting to high and we have of course more fps .. run good very playable ... 5 MINUTES AGAIN STUTTERING!!!

MEDIUM THE SAME !!!... ON LOW THE FPS IS VERY HIGH .!!!.. AND THE STUTTERING ALMOST SPARISE BUT STILL THERE SOMETIMES ...  its makes no difference the setting ..

WHEN THE GAME SAYS RUN GOOD VERY GOOD .. AMAZING .!. BUT MOST OF THE TIME I HAVE THE PRESENCE OF THIS STUTTERING CAUSE ANNOY .and unplayable.

I konw the gtx 1050ti is not the best for fps in game but unplayable like this c mon !! i playng on assassins creed origin on high ultra (no hd of course ) on 35 fps constantly..

    ☹️

@Markvvelsen DO YOU BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A CONFILCT WITH ASSASSINS CREED ORIGINS IN MY SISTEM  BECAUSE IS  a CRACK VERISON ??? .. and i konw they use the same protection .. i was thinking about this

  • No that's not the problem... I know because i've had Assassins Creed Origins (cracked) installed while having Need for Speed Payback normally working.
I wanted to try ACO before buying and was convinced after a couple of hours playing so deleted the cracked version and bought the game.

@Markvvelsen Ok guys i think now i really resolved the stuttering iusses aswell! one night TO playnig and today aswell no stuttering anymore,  (or they put some ghost patch ) or i resolved THE PROBLEM  by myself .. !!!!!

to eliminate the problem i done the following things :

1 DONT USE DRAGON CENTER  O SIMILAR SHIFT MODE PROGRAM .

    2 DEACTIVATE ANTIVIRUS ON OFF

    3. PUT ON NVIDIA CONTROLL PANNEL THE  ENERGY MODE ON MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE

4 KEEP ON THE PROGRAM EARLIER INDICATED "PROCESS LASSO" (IN MY CASE WITH ALL 8 CORE ACTIVE)

ENJOY THE GAME WITHOUT STUTTERING !!!

IM PLAYING ON HIGH WITHOUT PROBLEMS ANYMORE. WITH GTX 1050TI SINGLEPLAYER AND MULTIPLAYER
