Re: controlling the soundtrack

@KlariskraysNHL wrote:

I actually have found 4 songs from the recent soundtrack that I really life and added to my music library.  I always find 2 or 3 songs that I like.  You can control your own music... get spotify and play music in the background and mute the NHL soundtrack.

This is what I do as well. I agree each year there's a couple tracks I really like, but normally I turn off the soundtrack shortly after launch and stream some tunes that best fit the mood. Plus, I like having it play during gameplay. Music just adds a lot to the immersion for me even though it's totally unrealistic to have music during gameplay.

  • @EA_Aljo Since I have my gaming monitor and PC monitor side by side I just play a streaming movie service and listen to them while playing offline or when I'm playing goalie cause I'd go insane otherwise.

I play on a TV, but just connect my gaming headset to my Xbox and PC/phone for streaming music. It works really well. Music is so subjective. Everyone's got a different idea for a soundtrack that helps immerse you in the action.

@KlariskraysNHL thanks for the update. My guess is they never changed whomever is responsible for music.. I like 3 of the bands (the hives, sum 41, and beck) not those songs though. I don't think I've liked any songs from any of the games since 19. 19 had a handful of tunes and good bands. I have no idea if EA is super handcuffed when choosing music or what goes into this but it's just never a good selection. I'll never know why they just don't go to a real hockey game and just choose music that they play in the venues. It's really that simple.. I'd imagine everyone will just mute the music like every other year..

@rsandersr47 Using huge popular songs isn't cheap. Like some of the music wrestlers use costs an arm and leg to use yearly. But this year it seems they were trying to diversify the music styles having some known names while also showing love to some indies.

In NHL 23 my fav songs were...

    Chilli Jesson – Carolina Reaper
Matt Maeson – Blood Runs Red
Real Friends – Tell Me You’re Sorry
Muse – Kill or Be Killed
    Korn – Forgotten

And yeah I let the music play for a week or so before I just put it and use outsourced music while gaming.

@KlariskraysNHL I like muse as a band, didn't care for that song. Carolina reaper was the only song I liked.

It may not be cheap but are they really struggling THAT much? I mean I just feel there are a ton of old and up and coming rock bands that they could use music from (and my guess relatively cheapish)

Greta van fleet, Kongos, royal blood, highly suspect, cage the elephant, the strokes, the white stripes, Arctic monkeys, the struts, rise against, nine inch nails, queens of the Stone age, audio slave, radio head, seether, rage against the machine, OK go, kaleo, thrice, Foo fighters.. all a good mix of alt and rock.. new and old. I've seen a few of these bands in previous games. This is music I would likely hear at a game. Why not hear this in the menu? I mean it's fine if they can't get their most notable songs.. I mean I'll just use spotify but it just makes me wonder who the devs are making this game for? Do they actually have an idea for who their playerbase is? I dunno anyone who is happy with the music.

We try to bring more attention to up and coming artists rather than include classic tunes. I love the classics as well so like @KlariskraysNHL, I tend to turn off the soundtrack and stream music while I play.

@EA_Aljo Personally I think the best soundtrack from any EA NHL game has to be from 12. You even had full control over what's playing.

Anthrax, Billy Idol, Bush, Dropkick Murphys, ELO, Judas Priest and songs that just jolt my nostalgia as soon as I hear them like Occult Enemies, Standing on the Edge of the Noise etc.

If custom music could ever return I'd harvest my favorite songs from each game, 22 has some great ones too that I've added to my library, but not being able to turn songs I dislike off or simply skip a song makes me just revert back to the NHL theme/ turn on Spotify.
