A Comprehensive Request for Competitive Integrity and Regional Accountability
APEX LEGENDS: THE STATE OF COMPETITIVE INTEGRITY IN ASIA
An Open Statement to Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts
Purpose: Document recurring concerns affecting Asian players and request measurable improvements to competitive integrity.
1. Executive Summary
Apex Legends has the potential to be an outstanding competitive shooter. However, many players in Asia feel that the competitive experience has deteriorated due to recurring problems involving cheating, input-device fairness, smurfing, ranked matchmaking, and server quality.
These are not interchangeable issues. Each requires a different solution, and each deserves serious investigation.
Players should not have to accept an environment in which their skill, time, and competitive progress feel meaningless.
We are not asking Respawn to abandon Apex Legends. We are asking the developers to make it worth playing competitively again.
2. Evidence Classification
This document separates evidence into three categories.
Category A — Officially Confirmed Information
Information published by EA or Respawn, including official policies, statistics, technical changes, and acknowledged problems.
Category B — Player-Reported Experiences
Public discussions and individual reports from players in Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia, and other Asian communities.
These reports demonstrate recurring concerns but do not independently establish the overall prevalence of a problem.
Category C — Analysis and Requested Improvements
Recommendations based on the documented problems. These are proposals, not claims that EA has already implemented them.
3. Cheating and Anti-Cheat Effectiveness
Officially Confirmed
Respawn acknowledged in August 2024 that Asia-Pacific had been particularly affected by cheating activity.
The company announced additional anti-cheat personnel and expanded 24/7 coverage.
In September 2026, EA announced the introduction of new controller-device detection systems and reported 8,609 cheating-related bans over a seven-day period.
EA also reported a global Match Infection Rate reduction from 5.7% to 3.9%.
These figures are global and must not be interpreted as Asia-specific results.
Player Concerns
Asian players continue to report suspected cheating in ranked and other game modes.
The recurring concerns include:
- Aimbots and wallhacks
- Recoil manipulation
- DMA-based cheating
- Repeated appearances of suspicious accounts
- Suspected cheating in high-ranked matches
- Insufficient visibility into enforcement outcomes
Requested Improvements
- Publish anti-cheat statistics separately for Asian data centers.
- Report average detection and enforcement times.
- Provide regional match infection rates.
- Explain how repeat offenders and replacement accounts are identified.
- Provide meaningful feedback after player reports.
4. PC Controller Aim Assist and Input-Device Fairness
Officially Confirmed
Respawn reduced controller aim assist strength for PC players by 25% in the Shockwave update.
The developers explained that aim assist was too strong in the competitive PC environment and that encounter win-rate data supported the adjustment.
Aim assist is an intended controller feature. Its existence alone is not cheating.
Respawn has separately classified unauthorized hardware and software that manipulate input behavior, automate actions, or alter recoil to gain an unfair advantage as cheating.
Player Concerns
Many mouse-and-keyboard players question whether the current balance between input methods provides a sufficiently fair competitive environment.
Concerns include:
- Close-range tracking differences
- Controller aim-assist strength
- Input-device advantages in PC lobbies
- Controller emulation and input spoofing
- Recoil manipulation using external devices
- Difficulty distinguishing legitimate controller performance from prohibited manipulation
Requested Improvements
- Publish encounter-performance comparisons between controller and mouse-and-keyboard players.
- Separate the data by region, rank, and game mode where possible.
- Explain the technical distinction between legitimate aim assist and prohibited input manipulation.
- Publish enforcement statistics for unauthorized input devices.
- Review whether current input balance provides a fair competitive environment in PC ranked matches.
We are not demanding that legitimate controller players be punished. We are demanding transparent and evidence-based competitive balancing.
5. Smurfing, Alternate Accounts, and Ranked Stomping
Officially Confirmed
Respawn has previously discussed smurfing, ranked placement, provisional matches, and matchmaking improvements.
In November 2026, EA announced enforcement against accounts abusing a Ranked Rookie IV exploit.
The company reported 906 accounts banned and more than 15 million RP deducted.
This was a specific ranked-system exploit, not evidence that all smurf accounts are cheating.
Player Concerns
Players report experienced competitors entering lower-ranked matches using alternate accounts.
This can create situations where new and inexperienced players repeatedly encounter opponents far beyond their actual skill level.
Concerns include:
- Deliberate low-rank account progression
- Repeated domination of lower-ranked lobbies
- Alternate accounts used to avoid ranked consequences
- Account boosting and rank manipulation
- Uneven skill distribution during seasonal resets
Requested Improvements
- Detect repeated low-rank domination by highly experienced accounts.
- Improve skill reassessment for new and returning accounts.
- Investigate suspicious account progression patterns.
- Publish regional ranked matchmaking quality indicators.
- Explain how smurfing is distinguished from legitimate new-player progression.
6. Ranked Integrity and Competitive Progression
Ranked is supposed to reward consistent performance and competitive skill.
However, cheating, smurfing, exploits, and matchmaking disparities can undermine that purpose.
The November 2026 Rookie IV exploit demonstrated that vulnerabilities in ranked progression can directly affect competitive results.
Requested Improvements
- Publish a transparent ranked-integrity report.
- Explain how exploits affecting RP are detected and corrected.
- Establish a clear RP restoration policy for matches materially affected by confirmed cheating.
- Improve matchmaking transparency.
- Report regional differences in ranked match quality.
7. Asian Server Quality and Regional Neglect
Player-Reported Experiences
Korean players have publicly raised concerns about Seoul data-center availability, the practical consequences of using Tokyo servers, latency, packet loss, and matchmaking quality.
Players in other parts of Asia have also reported concerns involving cheating and competitive match quality.
These reports should be investigated rather than dismissed as isolated complaints.
Requested Improvements
- Publish latency and packet-loss statistics for Asian data centers.
- Explain data-center availability and infrastructure changes.
- Investigate persistent connection-quality complaints.
- Provide clearer server-selection information.
- Consider the distinct needs of Korean, Japanese, and Southeast Asian players.
8. Reporting, Enforcement, and Player Protection
A reporting system is only effective if players can trust that reports are investigated appropriately.
Players need not receive confidential information about another account, but they should receive meaningful confirmation that their reports are being processed.
Requested Improvements
- Improve report-status feedback.
- Publish regional enforcement statistics.
- Explain how suspicious matches are reviewed.
- Provide post-match review mechanisms where technically feasible.
- Consider restoring competitive points when confirmed cheating materially affected a match.
9. Transparency Commitments Requested
We ask EA and Respawn to provide the following:
- Regional anti-cheat statistics for Asian data centers.
- Regional match infection rates.
- Input-device competitive-performance data.
- Statistics and policies concerning smurfing and ranked manipulation.
- Regional server-quality reports.
- Clearer report-processing feedback.
- A defined RP restoration policy for confirmed cheating incidents.
- Regular public updates explaining measurable progress.
If some information cannot be disclosed for security reasons, Respawn should explain the limitations and provide alternative aggregate indicators.
10. Why This Matters
A competitive game is not sustained by new skins, events, or revenue alone.
Its value depends on the trust players place in its competitive environment.
When players repeatedly feel that their effort is meaningless, that their matches are unfair, or that their regional experience is neglected, the game loses the enjoyment and competitive value that brought them to it.
For many Asian players, this is no longer simply a question of encountering an occasional cheater.
It is a question of whether the competitive environment deserves their time and continued support.
11. Final Statement
We want to play Apex Legends.
We want to compete fairly, improve our skills, enjoy matches with friends, and feel that our achievements have meaning.
We do not want legitimate players to be punished because of their preferred input device.
We do not want unsupported accusations to replace proper investigation.
We do not want empty promises or global statistics that cannot explain the actual experience of Asian players.
We want measurable improvements, transparent communication, and accountability.
Asia is part of the Apex Legends community. Its players deserve the same commitment to competitive integrity as every other region.
Respawn and EA, please demonstrate that the Asian competitive experience matters.
