As a workaroud for people struggling with this issue, if you have a NVIDIA card that support NVIDIA FreeStyle by pressing ALT+F3 you can bring up this overlay and on the Color Blindness section you can try to ramp up Deuteranopia and this makes the default red highlight into something like purple that I find easier to spot in most instances.
