I have gone from frighteningly bad when I started S8 to absolutely average now in S13 and two things have been consistently bad in Apex...the horrible matchmaking and bad audio.
What makes the matchmaking so wonky is the 1 in 20 game when it feels like you are playing normal humans beings on the other side. Otherwise, you feel like you are up against lobbies full of cheaters, smurfs, and godlike players.
I don't think anyone at Respawn cares or even listens to all the complaints about SBMM. Nothing will ever be done about it so I just quit and go do something else whenever it is really bad.
Agreed^ they don’t care at all, they use casuals to please those pro players in hopes that they buy skins. A dedicated pro team is bound to buy skins much more frequently than your average player so of course they are going to please the pro players at the causal players expense. Just how apex & EA works, best thing to do honestly is just either stop playing the game or dea with it and don’t support EA in the process
The 1-in-20 is EOMM at play. It's making sure you don't quit by giving you a hard carry stack and/or making you play against lower elo players for one match. Variable reinforcement schedule for player retainment. They know your MMR, but intentionally wildcard match for most matches for some reason they won't tell us.
The other issue is they try to "Bring up" and "bring down" MMR with law-of-averages rather than enforcing putting people of a similar MMR together. It might be done for time constraint purposes, but either way, it's intentional to have it be allowed rather than force waiting for an actual same-elo-only stack and match.
If they're sincere, they can add another checkbox saying "prefer matching MMR only" for people who don't mind waiting longer.
