Forum Discussion
We'll let the development team know how the community feels about matchmaking through the in-depth discussions on these boards. If you want to go into more details about your experiences with arena that always helps paint a broader picture of what's happening. From the pictures below, what I'm getting is that you don't feel you have a chance against people that have been playing the game for a long time. Or are you talking about the weapon balance?
- 4 years ago@EA_Blueberry If I may, it is obviouly not the weapon balance as both are on R99 in the top picture. It is also obvious that he got killed two times in the same match by someone whose stats are juggernaut compared to him... As many of us. this engagement based matchmaking doesn't provide fair challenge, and getting hooked is short term view.
Cause once we get enough, we never come back to your company's games (EA included).
I want fair fights: my level or slightly above, or even more broadly above but with a tiny chance if I strategize well.
But console aim assist (or strike packs), aimbots and cheats, laggy as hell servers (don't get me started with troubleshooting my connection, please, all other games work well, I can stream videos in the highest quality possible and so on), and your "engaging for more fun" SBMM don't allow for it. That sucks, because Apex, beside these politics and parasites, is really a gameplay marvel and is engaging per itself. - 4 years ago@EA_Blueberry I'll help 🙂
My Arena matchmaking experience has been extremely inconsistent. I'll often solo queue and get matched up with teammates that are fresh installs (lower than level 50 with stats to match) and end up having to sweat to 1v3. The games this doesn't happen, I'm in a squad and I'm fighting doubly accomplished players (I'm a Diamond player and I'll be fighting masters and predators when I queue with friends). I think there is a ton of merit and promise in the game mode - a snapshot of Apex combat in a round-based mode that rewards kills and material collection. But the matchmaking really ruins my Arenas experience, and it's why I rarely even try to queue for it. - 4 years ago
@EA_BlueberryAll I have to say is that the matchmaking for Arenas is absolutely terrible... between the terrible matchmaking and penalties the game mode is unplayable and whenever it is playable it usually isn’t an enjoyable experience
I thought by introducing penalties the game mode would of been better but now you are just stuck in games with AFK Teammates, stuck in games against smurfs, aimbotters, 20 bomb 4k players you have no chance against, teammates who sabotage the match by instantly destroying your walls, traps, fences, etc... the worst part about the penalties is that the player who actually deserves the Penalties never gets punished while the teammates who are stuck in the match with them are the ones getting punished... I haven’t touched Arenas except for event challenges and plan to keep it that way until it isn’t just a sweat or be sweated game mode
Speaking of balancing in Arenas... the weapons need totally rebalanced cost wise and certain weapons like the Spitfire for example should be care packaged or removed all together in Arenas because of how easy it is to just mindlessly hitfire and 1 v 3 the entire enemy team I hate having to run spitfire just because the enemy team has 2-3 of them- EA_Blueberry4 years ago

Thank you for clarifying with the specifics, we'll share this feedback with the team.
Matchmaking is always an area of the game that is closely observed. The team will always make changes when they find it necessary through community feedback, internal data, and their design direction. There's been changes to Apex Legends matchmaking in the past so anything can happen.
I understand your concerns, specifically for the solo queue players. It's tough to go against another team of players that are grouped up together while you have randoms who may quit or have no intentions to work as a team. Keep in mind though that arenas is competitive and you'll be going up against coordinated teams more often than not. Definitely utilize those LFG channels before queuing up solo to see if you can increase your chances of winning. Communication is key.
Anyone have additional thoughts on weapon balancing to continue driving the conversation?

One more thing I wanted to highlight, ranked Areas will be coming in Season 10. This should help level out the playing field.
- 4 years ago@EA_Blueberry Hi. No, I'm not talking about weapons. The game always brings good players to me. So if you look at the enemy player in the picture, you will understand what I mean. I'm a new Apex player, please don't let such players come to me.
