Its not the server per se, its players with high ping. If they see you and can shoot you on their screen, the game accept those bullet as hits even if you were behind cover or just closed the door on your screen. But from a technical standpoint, I understand why they have to do this. Every match is basically 60 different (60 players) "realities" that have to sync up to one reality. Everyone, even low pingers, are slightly de-synced so I think this, i.e client sided hit detection, is the best and fairest way. The other option would be to have a server sided hit detection but that would lead to ALOT of random no-regs and weird stuff.
You can look at it this way: client sided hit detection results in attackers advantage. If you have 150 ping and rushes someone and start shooting him, you will actually start be allowed to land bullets before that guy even saw you on his screen. But likewise, if you have 150 ping and get pushed and try to run away, you might be safe on your screen but still be in line of sigh on the enemy's screen where he can land hits on you.

It needs to not favor the high ping players and keep players on servers closer to them to better avoid high pings. I'm seeing players being able to teleport around because they're so high ping that its impossible to hit them, even to the point where bullets no reg, especially when the player has less than 25 HP. Everyone thought hitting a Wraith with the small hitbox was hard, try hitting one where every bullet either flies through them or doesn't deal any damage, while you die before their shots are shown to be fired on your side of things. (That's right, I'm getting knocked before I hear the gun shoot or even see the bullet line).
Higher ping should mean higher lag. Every other game does this to where you're standing still or moving slower on other player's sides and are highly killable. Yet in Apex, it means you get some sort of god mode, which isn't exactly fair since you can hit players long after they ran behind cover, making to where you can deal high amounts of damage and escape mostly unscathed. This sort of system is basically cheating without using cheats.- 3 years ago
I agree that Respawns policy on totally no restrictions on high ping is stupid. They should have a limit of like 80 ms or so to be able to play ranked. But I must criticize your way of just assuming stuff and therefore spreading alot of misinformation. You are just assuming that high ping makes you harder and sometimes even impossible to hit, that high ping makes you teleport around. First of all, how do you even know those players you saw do this had high ping? You just assume this.Do me a favor. Go play on another regions and see if you become invincible only because you have high ping... You wont. You will be able to hit people before they react but you will also be shot alot around corners. But it is quite funny to be able to instabeam someone before you even appear on their screens, which is possible with high ping. Here is a short clip of me playing at an asian server from EU. These poor players didnt even react. But all and all will playing on high ping put you in a disadvantage compared to playing on low ping since looting, pinging and hit markers will be much harder. Just look at the first guy I shoot as he drops down. So many hits in the air that didnt give me a hit marker until much later because of the high ping. If I was on low ping, I would have seen him get knocked mid air and be able to save ammo in the clip or snap to another target. Now I wasted a full clip.
PS on another topic; I recently saw a guy saying that Asian servers was full of hackers... Were were all of them when I played there? I played a good 20 matches and pretty much stomped every match. hmmm strange. 😉
- Midnight97463 years agoHero+@SbmmMakesMeSmurf To an extent, high ping helps the player who has it. I've had a high ping before, (not by choice), and was very surprised by how many fights I was able to slip in and out of without dying and how many kills I was able to get as well.
What I've meant as well is that while at a higher ping, lower ping players don't see you right away when you turn corners and you can shoot them after they turned corners, and the game would favor your shots more often due to lag compensation.

100% this. I know many games will switch to server side hit detection for a player once they reach a certain ping or higher, but that bar keeps getting raised to allow players with far too high of a ping to still have client side hit detection with newer and newer games. Just seems like a bad ploy to use less servers and save money at the cost of quality.
