Congrats! Rank Is Broken

I waited a few weeks before jumping into ranked so all the TTV's and such high ranking players can balance into their ranks (like diamonds and above), yet somehow everyone who's pred level (skill wise) are still in bronze or silver rankings. Matchmaking is also so terrible (WAY worse than season 12's) as it keeps giving me teammates who have zero game awareness or skill.

For a new ranked system that requires teamwork to rank up, its sure broken.

Can't get anywhere when you get randoms who push fights as a solo, randoms who (on purpose) stands out of bounds or throw themselves off the side of the map, and why do people keep picking to play as Lifeline, but they don't even know how to revive teammates?

I had a Lifeline a few games ago who just stood there next to our knocked Fuse, and I pinged Fuse's location after starting and stopping a revive, and Lifeline just looks at Fuse like their head is empty, and then the other team just pushes us and knocks Lifeline down, and I had to squad wipe as a solo.

Seriously... actually FIX the matchmaking, servers, audio, etc.

@lilbabyjoe69 I think you miss the point that 19 out of 20 teams will not be the last standing team even in pred lobbies. Even in ALGS 19 teams will not be the last standing team, yet they get points and big cash rewards.

Respawn is using weasel wording there.

Their matchmaker will form "average mmr" teams by pairing low and high mmr players together on the same team. This forms matches exponentially faster. This is an unfortunately extremely common trend among game devs, as they are not experts in player psychology, and are only beholden to doing "job's done boss" type effort where they show things are balanced statistically on paper, but not in reality. They don't understand this is toxic to both kinds of players, as low elo doesn't like being benched every match for being able to do anything, nor do high elo players like feeling like they're perpetually a man down.

They know people's true MMR, as they have the reliable ability to give new and low elo players hard carry stacks to a win every 20 matches, for EOMM purposes.

Once again, they don't implement same mmr team-and-lobby for a few reasons:

    1. Time constraints. Easier to form matches of averaging out, than it is to actually form matches of MMR brackets.
    2. EOMM purposes.
    3. Their method of figuring out people's MMR is coarse-grained and noisy, so they overcompensate with wideband matchmaking and only dedicate the few clear-cut MMR cases towards the 1-in-20 winrate enforcement teams that get used to escort players on a loss streak into a win. Or to make sure people don't go over said win rate too badly.

@Death_By_RingThis is very much true. Respawn knows how to make the matchmaking work, but they choose to go a EOMM route. I think this is also to satisfy the top 1% of players (the masters/preds), as they get into lobbies they can easily stomp and destroy.

The new rank system is okay in its own rights, but its implementation of matchmaking is WAY worse than S12, and prior seasons.

Due to this decision of EOMM, and how badly they messed up ranked, (the fact that Bronze to Gold rank lobbies are consisted of Rookie to Diamond players, with the skill required to rank up being Pred++ level), I have decided to ignore every single teammate I get from this point on.

I refuse to work as a team with below level 100 teammates, teammates who are still Rookie rank, teammates with no skills (ranging from aiming, awareness, etc), teammates who play like noobs/bots, and other kinds of useless teammates.

Having to resort to this kind of behavior doesn't sit right with me, but Respawn doesn't want to have an actual matchmaking system. So, for that reason, I won't care about the teammates I get.

This is the sort of thing that also leads to toxic players. Such as the ones who run off solo and then blames their teammates.

Based on how I've been feeling about the game, and as things like this goes on, and even how teammates steal my IMC Armory loot (from my bins after I open them), amonst other actions, it becomes easier to understand why this game has so many toxic players.

It seems that a lot of players want to work as a team, but they're forced into terrible matchmaking over and over, that they become irritable and more prone to snap on their teammates for every little action.

While I don't plan on becoming toxic, I'm sure my random teammates are going to feel like I am. However, I keep the game voice and text chat muted, and if they start spam pinging, that gets muted as well.

A better solution would be for Respawn to fix the issues with the game. Instead us players are going to have to play as solos, and break away from the "team-based" aspect of the game.

Edited: After posting this, I got these two teammates who are in the same club. This only enforces my reason for playing as a solo in ranked:

While of course, since I decided to be a solo, I still get to fight other low level players from enemy teams. My teammate Ash above was a smurph. They were playing like a pred, while Wraith was 100% a "new" player. That Wraith got killed 3 times in a row. In the meantime, this is who I died to when 3 different teams focused their fire on me:

I don't know how Respawn defines "rank", or "skills" exactly, but anyone below level 100 shouldn't qualify to even get into rank, because people are just smurphing to murder lower lobbies or to get into matches as a level 10-50 cheater. That's not fun for anyone else.

Edited 2: My next game, I got these two teammates who are also in the same club. If anyone thinks the game has any kind of skill base matchmaking, or meaning to the matchmaking, this is simply not a thing.

Welp, want to share my expirience with you. I just got plat 4. at the very beggining of season it(ranked system) was cool for me, because in previous rank system in diamond 1 i`ve met players that dont deserve it, and now, it happend along the way to play. In previous system the most cursed rank was play,  but now its gold, cuz u can get rookies with lvl 30 in ur team, and preds as enemts in same match. As i can see they(devs) tried to make smooth transition along the ranks, like u constanly feel player quality improvement, but it went horribly wrong because u either got teamed up with someone who either know how to play properly or dont know how 2 shoot before plat. and from 10 play matches i can see thta here is WAY more competetive level of gameplay. I dont want to cry about facing way more stronger enemys than me, cuz i can learn how 2 play better because of it, but i dont want 10 hours into apex players here as well. This almost imposible now for solo que(non of my friends like apex, and finding someone throught discords, etc. havent succseed.)

In my opinion they should do smth with messed gold lobby, in plat u already need to w8 for lobby to fill,  so i think that more players now in gold, but in gold instead of gold teammates u got rookie/bronze/silver. But i`m good with plat being sweaty now, i really do enjoy it, before first pre-made TTV/pro/sweaty squads face mine somehow idk how they got this rank teammates.

Conclusion; everything from rookie to gold 1 is a pit that sucking you down ranks,  so you must put huge amount of effort to get out. As a reward in more higher ranks chance to meet more skilled randoms in ur team is high, and overall quality of games are more competetive and challenging, and its slightly easier to rank up there since ur teammates somehow got there too, so they know how to play this game.

P.S. Sorry for my english. And this reply in general, didnt find better way to exrpess my expirience

Season 4 Pred, but I still honestly think that they should not be in lower tier matches.

  • Trying to solo is a pain.

I have ~1500 hours, day 0 player and 12% win rate, not that it matters ...

  • For the longest time, matchmaking has been like this:

Winning = You get low leveled (and bad) teammates the next round, with their ranks being bronze to silver, (now rookie to bronze)

Losing = Suddenly you get teammates that are of a higher level, skill, and rank.

Ignoring (or not being a team player) = The game continues to give you bad teammates, and you'll eventually get the "bottom of the barrel" teammates, the bots, the ones who are basically 5 minutes into the game. I've actually did try ignoring teammates like I said I would, however; I ended up trying to work as a team with randoms, as they kept getting worse and worse otherwise. (Ignoring them, just lead to getting level 10-30 rookie teammates every match).

My conclusion from my own experience which starts from the week 1 of Apex, is this: If you win, you get to baby sit teammates, if you lose, you'll end up being taken care of by other players, but this doesn't happen until after multiple games of you being squadwiped, and if you reject the matchmaking, the randoms, and refuse to be a team player, you just end up with players who are even worse than the bad teammates you would get when you win.

This isn't SBMM, nor does it make a lot of sense to put players through, (I would also say its not a fair matchmaking system, although individual skills and the skills of a whole team can mean all the difference and there's no real way to balance that out).

The bottom line is, if we're suppose to compete with players around our skill level, we should also have teammates who are around our skill level, otherwise that's not skill base matchmaking.

I totally understand it is a battle royal and it should be last squad alive BUT it enforces people to play in such a boring way. I never said I wanted a deathmatch. I just pointed out that Killing other players in the early stages of the game means NOTHING. it may be easier and you can then just play safe but if you die soon after you are still in the negative.

I was watching a Diamond Streamer He had 12 Kill Participation points I think 7 Kills 3 Assists and 2 team points in the TOP 7 PLACEMENT AND HE ONLY HAD +33 Points. Plus 33? for killing 4 whole squads. +33 is absolutely nothing. You can die off drop because your team finds no good loot and lose almost DOUBLE those points.

I totally understand its about last squad alive, but killing other squads should mean soooo much more than it currently is because there are so many risks involved.

    1) They could have better gear,

    2) They could be better players,

    3) You could be 3rd Partied

    4) You could be 4th Partied

    5) You could waste all your meds and ammo fighting for them to just run away. (Teams with Valkyries are fun :D)

    6) You could be caught outside the ring. (Not that big a deal but im running out of things to say)

The amount of times I've run into a building or through a cave and a team of 3 just happen to be in there waiting for someone to walk on in is insane. Or the Amount of times a team just says "Na i dont wanna fight this" and Valkyrie Ults away. ITS BORING. ITS NOT FUN TO WATCH.

Not to mention its really difficult to rank up now solo because if your team is the run off and die type then you really struggle to get any sort of points or to atleast cushion your -60 fall by ratting because you can only get points when you are top 3 without kills. maybe you get one or 2 kills you would need to reach top 6 to break even with -60.

I hope this sums up how this game really shouldn't be all just about last squad alive
