Cross-Play and Cross-Platform Saves

I love Apex Legends but there are some musts in a BR that are missing in this game.

Cross-Play

I understand that Apex Legends is a team-based Battle Royale, and that Apex Solo is most likely not going to be permanent. But if this game is team-based, shouldn't there be Cross-Play? The whole idea of a team-based game is that there should be no restrictions between playing with friends. I understand that only in October Sony allowed Cross-Play to all developers and EA couldn't then, so hopefully there aren't any more problems with adding this important feature.

Cross-Platform Saves

This is just as important as Cross-Play, if not MORE. If Respawn wish to make Heirloom cosmetics a maximum of $500/£500 each and Legendary cosmetics $20/£20 each, then at least allow Cross-Platform saves through EA Accounts, similar to how your Fortnite progress is saved across different platforms through an Epic Games Account. If we have to switch platforms for whatever reason, we either have to spend more money or face losing our progress? Heirloom and Legendary cosmetics are already very expensive and no one has complained as of yet, but it is simply outrageous that we have to spend more money just to catch up or start over again?

The Apex Legends Community understands that these features are huge and couldn't be added at launch and will take time and we are all happy to wait, but if there any problems, please let your players know so we don't have to keep asking.

    Hey @CompleatBeet

Edit: Updating this post since we recently announced that cross-play will be coming to Apex Legends in the future. For more information check out the EA Play 2020 Announcements thread:

I'm afraid we don't have any updates on cross-play or cross-saving for Apex Legends. I know it's something people have been asking about for quite a while, but I haven't heard if there are any plans to bring either to the game.

If that does happen in the future we'll definitely make an announcement so that everyone is aware. A good place to watch out for announcements on things like this would be over at the official Apex Legends Twitter page. The team usually shares updates there when they have news.

Consoles should get crossplay, PC hell no. I wouldn't want to see a bunch of mineless bots in all my games, i hate matchmaking already lol.

  • Thanks @EA_Kent for the information. I know that Respawn are aware about the desire for Cross-Play and Cross Platform Progress but just wanted to know if they had any news on them coming to Apex Legends. It was rumoured that we can expect these two features in Season 5 of Apex Legends, but obviously not. I'm hoping Respawn can release them by Season 6 or Season 7. Definitely will follow Apex on Twitter for any news!

  • @Popa2caps If the development team for Apex Legends ever release Cross-Play to the game, I doubt it will only be for console. Many console players are worried about facing PC players due to exploiters and the advantage they have over console players, but most likely you will only be put into Cross Platform servers if you have a player on another platform in your lobby/party.

"Many console players are worried about facing PC players due to exploiters and the advantage they have over console players"

I'm more worried the other way around. See to me most hardcore console players now are using those XIM / Cronusmax devices. With some that use these devices, they also use no recoil scripts, or auto aim lock (think of it like a macro that keeps pulling your aim button).

To me, consoles have more open cheaters that don't know their directly cheating. I don't want that at all for PC. I also understand that console players don't want to be cheated, as they pay to play online, i also wish for this on PC, but adding crossplay doesn't help the support of fair gameplay when both systems already have issues.

If Respawn first allowed mouse & keyboard support on consoles while finding a way to block scripts for XIM / Cronusmax, while also dealing with the ever growing issue of cheaters on PC, i would enjoy crossplay, a little.

See, i play with a controller when i want to relax on PC, but i think it's kind of cheating to be honest, that is if i'm shooting somoone with a mouse (because of aim assist). So to me, a lot of changes would need to be in place for crossplay to work in my eyes, because i tried Warzone and hated everything about it, i thought it was a nightmare to play with consoles, but that's my opinion, i could just hate the TTK in that game (i'm not a huge COD fan).

If they forced crossplay i know i would stop playing Apex, but if they didn't i know i want try it out. In my opinion i would like mouse & keyboard users to be split from controllers first, than crossplay.

  • @Popa2caps Cross-Play will most likely not be forced. I imagine the way it will work is that you can only join Cross Platform servers if not everyone in a lobby is on the same platform.

On a Gaming PC that is higher than the recommended PC specifications for Apex, there is little to no input delay whereas on a console it is slightly slower which gives PC players a little advantage. Also it is a lot easier to exploit on PC because the game is stored in a file on your computer.

The simplest suggestion I have to counter exploits is add an in-game reporting system on a player's EA Account, similar to the one on PC and Fortnite's reporting system.

Other than that I agree with most of your statements. Controller on PC is already supported but to make it fair they should support keyboard and mouse on console too.

I'm not too worried about cheating in this case, surely they'll add an option to either enable or disable cross-play. Whichever suits you...

    @OmaeWaMuShindru

You should keep your progress if you start playing on Steam.

You can link up your Steam account with your EA Account, so as long as it's connected to the same account you were using already your progress will still be there. You can find more details on how to link the accounts over at the EA Help website
