The average amount of players actively playing has increased and it stays steady, so technically there isn't any direct proof that there are too many smurfs.
I'm using a graph that tracks the active users at the exact moment, so if somebody is playing on their smurf instead of their main then it won't affect the numbers.
This is why total playcount in a week, month or any time period shouldn't be trusted.
Now of course there is a major issue that has yet to be resolved, though I think it's far fetched to say the game is dying.
