I guess the difference with Origin is that you also have the Origin Access Basic and Premier subscriptions which use a 'vault' to offer games. So it makes sense for EA to make their games exclusive to Origin. The exceptions would be games such as For Honor which is from another publisher (Ubisoft). You also have in game items and currency which I expect EA prefers to keep at the point of purchase. It makes the whole retail process simple and focused. I remember being taught about added value and how keeping as much of your costs in house as possible meant you didn't have to worry about cash being outside the company. Keeping everything in house means you have far more control over costs so that suppliers and middlemen aren't the ones making money plus you aren't kept waiting for payment either. Origin is a bit clunky though but so are Steam and Uplay. I know what you mean about Microsoft Store though. Because it's part of Windows it feels holistic in some ways. Sorry if this wasn't necessarily the reply you were looking for. 🤓
