Hotdropping is the root of most problems, including the ring complaints.

I will say it outright, Hotdropping is the root of most problems in Apex:

  • Hotdropping gets people so caught up in the chaos that they don't fear the ring
  • Hotdropping turns skill into RNG of getting a gun
  • Hotdropping turns teamplay into a gaggle of chickens running around with no heads
  • Hotdropping halves lobbies in the first ring
  • Hotdropping leads to cautious teams never seeing a fight until the very end of the match
  • Hotdropping leads to nearly half the lobby dying before they have even had a chance to play the game
  • Hotdropping leads to teams that don't bother to stick together even after the hotdrop
  • Hotdropping leads to solo-droppers and impatient teammates who just rush off alone because half the lobby is already dead and they want a fight (but wont play arenas?)
  • Hotdropping leads to unrecoverable teamates and instant-quitting
  • Hotdropping leads to not only ratting, but for people to hate on ratting
  • Hotdropping turns a battle royal, into crummy worse than arenas experience for the vast majority of the teams that will die in the hotdrop.
  • Hotdropping leads to bad tactical mindsets and awareness, like the "just press w and delete them" mindset devoid of positioning sense.
  • Hotdropping devalues the purpose of placement when getting to 10/20 just consists of not hot dropping.

As much as it is a truly clunky solution, they should really test the idea of force-dropping teams into specific zones rather than the dropship flight path. That way you can spread out teams across the map and ensure more actual fights rather than one sided slaughter of people with no guns or ammo. It was always RNG what you would find or where you would be in relation to the first ring, so removing the choice of drop site really does not harm anything.

Also there are some people out there who so clearly have never visited some parts of the map because the only hot-drop who could use a bit of map sense from the experience.

@reconzero Getting 15 kills is the point! Lol. That's better than winning. Of course ranked is different, I'll land safe and play for positioning. But pubs i only care about kills, damage or trying to get badges. In my mind ranked is for playing smart and pubs is for practicing gun skill and movement and stuff for ranked.

    @1unown1

My sweet spot is when my first engagement of the game is taking the win by killing the kill leader. So much for those fifteen kills.
  • @Kinesis862 Tons of people enjoy the random chaos of hot dropping. I find it really difficult to be consistently good at it due to the RNG nature of it and my relative lack of skill.

Map design plays a big role though. Fragment is the perfect example. I freaking hate Fragment because the loot there is mediocre, it isn't complicated enough to hide or escape with any success, & it is accessible from every drop ship path. Not unusual to see half the lobby die there and then the middle of the match be pretty quiet.

Broken Moon seems to have addressed this by making the central POI, Terraformer, the biggest one on the map.
  • @Kinesis862 You make a great point. I'd almost rather the game just spawn us on the edge of the map and not let us choose where to drop.

Since the launch of this thread, Arenas has pretty much been deleted. Now it's TDMs and Controls.

Still faster than BR, but takes longer than Arenas.

I do wish they'd bring back Arenas.

As for BR, I hate hotdroppers because it's guaranteed death. I live in the woods so we don't have access to the best internet.

And when we launch edge-bound, the first ring gets quite small because few people remain.

I mostly witness that later in game.

I've had matches where each ring one or two squads die, and we have little to no ring movement.

And matches where 5+ died and later rings got massive movements.

I've had matches that had 6+ rings and matches where by final 2 the 4th ring was the final and would eat everyone when it moves, and then half-way through moving my team died.

So the ring movements are dependent on how many survivors or surviving squads there are, and because of the hotdroppers the rings are fewer, faster, and stronger.

As for people leaving matches when they get downed or bannered... I've had plenty of matches where I revive and respawn my teammates.

I had one match as Ballistic where I had 4 respawns and 2 revives.

He's not even a support class!

I've had a duos match as crypto where I respawned my ally 5 times, and almost got 6th but had to cross the final duo for the drone to reach the final beacon.. didn't end well...

second place! we played a few more matches together after that...

And, as NewCastle, I've had a few times that I launch my Ultimate at a downed ally, and they left before I landed, thus I couldn't revive them with my golden revive shield or pickup/craft their banner... Those times are really infuriating.

I've had a few where them leaving got me killed, a few where they stayed and I revived and they wrecked the enemy crew, and a few where they left before I could activate and so I put it away and I made second place without them while they left around 15th (trios).

I tend to always make top 5 by edge dropping, even if allies leave halfway through. I'm a rouge and aid, not a fighter - due to terrible internet service otherwise I'd have more wins under my belt.

This is getting long, better wait for replies to what's there before saying more...

  • @Kinesis862Your list sounds like all the reasons to hot drop... so much fun!

    Look mom, no gun!

I would really enjoy this match if we played for more than one minute.

    edit:

@6pure6hate6 I agree. There are times when I want to drop hot because I have played several matches just running around and not seeing any action. It's also a good opportunity to see if the team you are with is any good. So if they want to drop hot and I am ready, then I let them know they can drop anywhere for all i care. And it can be more fun and rewarding than to drop on the edges of the map. For me its a mood thing, what do I feel like doing this match?
