Getting to Diamond in Season 12 was the easiest it had been ever. It was easy in Season 11. But even more so in Season 12. In fact it was so easy even as a Solo player that I stopped playing ranked as soon as i hit Diamond with over 30 days left.
I was Diamond 2 in Season 5, and that was hard work for me, but was also fun.
In Season 11 I got to Diamond 1 without much effort, had not enought time for master. But when my 43 Years old self almost got master its definitely to easy...
Good decision to make ranked about winning games again!
P.S.: I had to look it up. It used to be that you are under the best 3% in the game when you reached diamond. Now you have almost 5% Master player...
Rank will only be fun in a 3-man premade squad but a total nightmare as solo. Also, it also meant an indirect nerf to all "aggressive fighting legends" like Octane, Pathfinder, Wraith, Mirage. I predict that Diamond+ lobbies will be dominated by squads of one Valkyries for the rotation power + two camping/hold position legends like Caustic, Gibbe, Watson, Newcastle etc. I also predict that Diamond+ lobbies literally will be 20 squads avoiding fights at all cost until Round3 where 80% of the lobby dies at the same time when the circle starts to move and forces everyone to fight.
- r1ggedgame3 years agoSeasoned Ace@Balladalidila can confirm, played 5 rounds solo yesterday , complete BS. then i teamed up with my US friend later and we did quite alright, despite my high ping to the US (or maybe bcs of it ...)
- Palette24carats3 years agoSeasoned Ace@Balladalidila but first of all it will be a Smurf Nightmare!! As soon as players feel stuck they will hop on their rank smurf, as soon as their teammates are not online they will hop on their rank smurf. Bronze, Silver and Gold will forever be filled with higher skilled smurfs to make sure you don't get those high rewarding wins. And they will then blame you for being trash if you ever complain. It's our fault we su ck!!

Yeah that is true. There will probably be easier for smurfs to play for a longer period of time in Bronze to silver but I think we also have to remember that these systems are very dynamic and hard to predict since they are governed by player incentives. What I mean is that if:
More high elo players start to smurf at low ranks --> Low rank lobbies become sweatier --> Less high elo players choose to smurf at low ranks --> Low rank lobbies becomes less sweatier --> More high elo players start to smurf at low ranks
So what this mean is that the smurfing problem wont just grow and grow and grow but rather will find some "equilibrium" level, perhaps resulting in less smurfs than now. But that remains to be seen.
But anyhow; I think this new rank system will make the ranked situation much healthier than before, mainly because it will make it harder for players to rank to lobbies with an average skill that is far above said player's skill. Bottom line is that a player, that truly possesses the skills of an average diamond player, will most likely find his way to diamond eventually. The road might be harder and sometimes more frustating but therefore also more rewarding. The old rank system however, would allow a player, with a skill level so that he only would win 50% of any 1v1s in gold lobbies, to climb probably as far as Diamond4 and THAT is not a well designed rank system.

@BalladalidilaI would disagree I mean a player on smurf doesnt care about placement.... its a smurf! All he wants is fun so he might hot drop and if he dies he doesnt care he is aiming for that perfect full of action game he dont care aboit points on his smurf so he might play longer there.
He might kill 6 players but end up top 14 so you get a big negative game and the 6 he killed too. Negative for everybody. Thats smurfing
