I really like solos. I played it a lot already and got the win badge on 4 different legends. Good and bad points:
The good:
It's more dependent on your own personal skill than squads. When you're succesful, it's because of you, and when you die it is too. This gives you much more control over how well you do in matches. I play most of my squad game with randoms, which are mostly terrible. So like I expected, I've been doing a lot better in solos.
The bad:
Player skill imbalance. When there are pros / streamers in the lobby, you may as well hit esc and quit right away. It's completely unfun being wrecked by someone who never misses or downs you with multiple wingman headshots while jumping, crouching and strafing like crazy. Solos needs ranked, or some form of matchmaking, even more than squads does.
The not actually bad:
3rd party meta. I really don't see the problem here. I haven't been bothered by it at all. If you don't want every fight to end in 3rd party, then maybe don't drop in an area where 20 people are dropping? I always choose my drop location wisely and I've never had the issues that people are whining about.
I'm in the "better matchmaking" bandwagon big time, been there since the first month I started playing 😀. More balanced matchmaking in all modes would take this game to the next level (popularity-wise) if EA dev could make that happen. After thinking on it for awhile now, there are a lot of challenges....but that's another topic 😁.
The 3rd partying is a valid, and good, strategy to use and everyone does it.....it is what it is. There are ways to work around that in solos (and squads), like not dropping in a hot zone like you mentioned.
The 3rd partying issue in solos (if I'm understanding the posts about it) is the game tends to be played in a more campy, cautious way because if you get 3rd partied...you're done since there's no squad help. That play style is boring for some so if there are ways to help prevent solos from turning into a huge campfest, that would be good IMO.
With the shorter ring times, it's already set up to help keep solos more fast paced....but there may be other ways to help balance out the tendency toward camping.
