Is Bronze the New Diamond+? MMR and Rank not Aligning.

If I'm playing in bronze against people that were master last season (guessing also having high MMR) I need to gain more points faster... Else it's not worth the time.

Yes, if you do good in placements you gain a significant amount of your rank back. However the feeling of playing a few bad games, ending up in bronze/silver, playing in diamond+ lobbies and seeing the huge of amount of points you need to get back, it.. it has made me give up playing APEX for the foreseeable future.

When I have played other games like Rocket League and League of Legends, I have often found myself climbing as far as I can before the season ends. In part to make it less painful to climb in and out of lower ranks the next season. MMR and ranked seems to have a closer relationship. Even though I ended up in a low rank sometimes, the game gave me much more points when it matched me against people with high MMR/rank and it often ended up making me skip a bunch of ranks.

I like the MMR system, but it needs to have a closer relationship with players rank, for ranked queues to work and being fun (in my opinion). Stomping on not as good or newer players is not fun for anyone especially for the newer players. Getting rid off MMR in ranked would make bronze a nightmare for newer players trying out ranked. Especially if everyone's rank resets every season.

The feeling of progression and being able to se if I'm improving is very rewarding, for me at least. That's why I much prefer to play ranked. But to find out if can get to higher a rank this season, is going to take way to much time. On my second account I played much more carefully the first 10 games and even though I was a much lower rank on that account last season i ended up in gold. It doesn't feel fair.

It's an awesome game, it's really fun and I love the movement and pace of the game. Unfortunately if I can't measure my "skill" or see if I'm improving or not, it's just not fun for me.

So in a somewhat frustrated tone.. Please fix ranked!

Thanks for your time!

  • @DifferenceIsKey I wish the ranking was similar to Clash of Clans, I know that's a completely different game, but what I mean is that each month when you "lose" your rank, you can just attack another player's village and resume where you had left off at.

Apex should be similar where last season's pro players, and those who hit masters without ratting, aren't in the lower ranks stomping on everyone else. A full rank reset is one of the things killing the rank scene.

  • Respawn have no idea how to deal with ranked games.

They introduced a placement system and then they were like: lets place everyone in low ranks and let them grind back. Which is a complete nosense.

Low ranks lobbies are a mix of everything where low skilled players can not survive.

I have been playing this game since day 1 and its just getting worst. The game itself is nice but the management is just not able to address the problems, it takes them month or years to react, and their solution is always more disappoiting than the previous problem. There is just no hope

  • Here’s what’s frustrating you have no idea what your hidden rank is. I play With the same two buddies I have a higher KD, achieved ranks, damage and kills almost every game and they are a full two ranks ahead of me after a day gold 2 and 3 while I’m gold four I get NO skill bonus or kill bonus I have no Idea how to fix it there’s no account tickets that I’m aware of to fill out I’m genuinely at the point that I think I’m done with the game it’s not fun when we get a W and my teammates get 3,4-500 and I’m getting 220 if I’m lucky.

thanks for not having any area to reach out about this problem respawn.

  • Same here. Last season I have been placed bronze 1 and it took me ages to grind till master. No skill bonus, no kill bonus. I could not see any skill increase while ranking up untill master....literally bronze 1 lobbies were the same as diamond 1 lobbies. It just doenst make any sense, what it the point of having a rank if the matchmaking is assigned by an internal ranking system that u don't see?

    Matchmaking is clearly broken.

    Solo Q-ing:
Pubs - Smurfs and cheaters everywhere
Ranked - Still smurfs and cheaters everywhere, but there's a bunch of actual higher ranked players

Playing with a full pre-made team:
Pubs - Its more "skill based", although a lot of enemies seem like they didn't even know what they were doing.
Ranked - Don't know, none of my friends play rank, but I'd imagine it be the same as pubs

Conclusion: The game thinks you can 1v3 everyone else as a solo, but then 3v1 as a pre-made team. Doesn't really seem fair.

  • Cheaters and matchmaking as a solo or pre-made is maybe not relevant to this discussion.

Want to add two things though:

    • It is a team game, so playing well as a team is always going to be beneficial.
    • In pubs people play with friends who are new or not as good and you’re going to find people who don’t know how to play.

My problem and part of the topic of this conversation, is that your rank is not a proof of skill in anyway anymore. Your rank is not in anyway affecting who you are matched against.. (it seems like to me and what respawn has published)

And your MMR is not affecting what rank you start at (stupid reset).

Dude I’m in the same boat, placed higher than my buddies and they’ve caught up and passed me bc they get all these extra bonus’ and I don’t. The game obviously thought I was a better player when I was placed gold 4 to their silver 3 but I’m being punished. It makes me not want to play and I will have to play DOUBLE their games to get to where I want to be.
