Issues with Apex 'Color Blind Mode'
I'm colourblind (Deuteranomalia) and am trying to improve my Apex experience. It is very difficult to play this game with deuteranomalia as some graphic elements which are designed to 'pop' or to stand out are basically camouflaged to me. I tried to fix this using the integrated Color Blind Mode which only caused more problems for me.
For me, personally, this means that most red or similar elements tend to blend into the, usually green, backgrounds. The biggest issue I have with this is that the digital threat scopes highlight everything in red which, to most people, should stand out. For me, this does the opposite.
There are many examples of colourblindness affecting my gameplay but they are a bit difficult to describe well enough in writing without examples.
My first and natural instinct was to check the settings for a colourblind mode. I became appalled to realize that the colourblind mode named deuteranopia makes these exact elements -even bleaker- and makes them fade more easily. Playing with no colourblind mode on is actually much easier, however counter intuitive that might sound.
Here is a direct example:
When a team member pings for enemies or "someone has been here", normal mode marks it on the location in a bright red symbol. For me, and most likely anyone with similar colourblindness, this red can easily be lost in green foliage/grass or yellow-ish sand. This results in me darting my view around myself for 2-5 seconds in search for the ping. As someone who is trying to progress in ranked matches, this is a huge problem.
Obviously, turning on deuteranopia mode should turn this into a brighter colour on the more distinguishable end of the spectrum for me. Instead, the "enemy spotted" ping becomes a bleak, pink-ish mark that doesn't 'pop' from the screen in any way. The "Someone has been here" ping, on the other hand, is still some sort of bright red.
Having noticed this problem, I went into the firing range and checked out how all the colours behave.
Instead of colours that pop better for me, nearly everything has been replaced by a more bleak variant which literaly makes it meld into the environment even more.
I have a family member who is also colourblind and completely avoids the colourblind modes in Apex for these same reasons.
Similarly, Doom Eternal had an issue where the colourblind modes did not re-adjust important elements to pop more, but instead filtered everything as if the viewer were affected by the colourblindness type, thus making it -even harder- for the afflicted to properly enjoy the game.
I have a feeling that something similar is going on in Apex. Who can I contact with more exapmles and experiences, so that this filter might be configured?
